Ready-To-Read Level 2 The Story of WolverineProduct reviews...
I have always heard about this series and wondered why it was so popular and after reading a few of the books I can see why, the story is short and appeals to young adventurers. I really like how the characters are described and the pictures just enhance the reading experience and the weird fonts help encourage reading.
I have a 6 year old who is going to year 3 this year and he is able to read the books with a bit of encouragement and not much help so that is great, he has commented that he really enjoys the strange writing and he enjoyed looking at the pictures and predicting what might happen in the story.
I liked how the maps were printed during the story and not at the beginning or end like most books do so you can follow the map before you read about the adventurers. As usual there are a lot of word play with the character names relating to various types of cheese. At first it was not easy to see what was causing the great stomachache but once the mystery is solved it all makes sense, it is not a long drawn out procedure and it is solved easily.
Highly recommend to anyone who wants to encourage young kids into reading.
My son is a huge fan of Geronimo Stilton and I can't recommend the books highly enough. They are perfect for introducing young children to chapter books.
Watch Your Tail! is the second book in the Cavemice series and follows the adventures of Geronimo Stilton's ancient ancestor, Geronimo Stiltonoot. In this book Old Mouse City finds it's inhabitants suffering from an awful stomachache and since Geronimo Stiltonoot is unaffected by it, he is sent on a dangerous mission to find the Cave of Memories and a cure for his fellow cavemice. His cousin Trap decides to tag along and so the fun begins.
Watch Your Tail! is exciting and something a little bit different. My son loves reading about dinosaurs, meteor showers, prehistoric inventions and sabre-toothed tigers which combined with Geronimo's scaredy cat personality and unique way of expressing himself, makes for an extremely humorous and action packed adventure. Each page has some sort of illustration and I love the different uses of colour and text to express emotions or emphasise certain words - perfect for keeping young readers engaged.
This is definitely a book that we will be reading again and again. My son never gets tired of Geronimo Stiltonoot's antics and we often find ourselves laughing out loud.
This was our second experience in the Cavemice setting (funnily enough in book 2 of the series). My daughter was very excited to have this book in her hot little hands. We took about a week to read the book together, just covering 2 - 3 chapters a night. The chapters are nice and short so you can do 1 chapter a night or more if you feel like it.
The tale was a bit easier to swallow this time. I think because we understood the setting to be a bit like Flintstones rather than truly "caveman" times. My daughter does not at all understand that this Geronimo is an ancestor of the original Stilton. I'm not sure what she thinks, but I suspect she thinks he has travelled to a theme park or through time.
We found the adventure pretty cool. The mystery kept my daughter's interest. It read a bit like a Scooby Doo episode, with the big reveal and their usual slapstick comedy too. The only real complaint I had was that one of the character's names kept changing spelling between Bluster and Buster. It didn't bother my daughter at all but I can imagine a younger reader (she wasn't reading it) might find it a bit confusing. Otherwise a good little book, more of the same popular formula and harmless fun.
We have so many of the Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton books now as my daughter has been a fan for a number of years. I think she is probably too old for them now at 11 as it only takes her about 20 minutes to read the books but she loves them a lot. We haven't read any of the books in the cave mice series until this book so this one is a little different to the others we have read.
In the cave mice books Geronimo Stilton has found stories of his ancestor Geronimo Stiltonnoot and the books are the stories of him. In this book Geronimo Stiltonnoot must solve the mystery of the Great Stomachache in New Mouse City. As he is the only one not suffering from the stomachache he goes on a quest to find the cure. It is much like the other Stilton books in that there is an adventure and a mystery to solve except it is set in the stone age and they live in caves and ride dinosaurs instead of cars.
It is quite a short story so good for readers starting out reading novels. The font is nice and large too for younger readers so it is less daunting than other short novel type books. Also it still has all the bright colourful pictures that make it easier for young children to read including full page pictures, and things like maps that add interest to the story.
