Oink! is a lovely little story that doesn't require words to be enjoyed or understood, in fact the only words you have are the sounds made by one of the four animals that you see. The book starts off with a pig enjoying a luxurious bath on its own and then comes a knock on the door and in enters a sheep who promptly joins pig in the bath. Poor pig just wants to relax on their own but it is ignored by sheep and soon enough a donkey and a cow join in for this what was once a nice and relaxing bath.
The pictures are in a lovely, simple sketch style but there is no way you can mistake just how pig is feeling at having his bath taken over (and I'm sure if you are a parent who has tried to have a bath without interruptions from your children, you can understand exactly how pig feels, I know that I can relate). Writing a book without many words at all (and the only words here are the noises that each animal makes), has to be difficult as you have to ensure that your audience, young and old, can tell exactly how each character feels, the author does this with ease and leaves you with a delightful, laugh out loud book for young and old to enjoy.
