How to be a Dog product reviews

My five year old is an animal lover and wants nothing more than to own a dog (or three) and work with animals. When she saw How to be a Dog among the pile of books available for review she had to have it. We weren't disappointed by it either. Her big sister (seven years old next week) and I loved it too. It was the first choice for both girls whenever they chose the bedtime story.

The book is told from the perspective of a dog. As the title suggests it is a guide for how other dogs should behave in a human household. Another title would be: How to get what you want from your Human. It certainly had us giggling as the text had a very serious tone but the illustrations showed the funnier more mischievous side of dogs. Another thing that appealed to the kids was the fact we, as humans, weren't supposed to reading this dogs' manual. There is something about being told you can't do something that makes you want to do it more.

This book is sure to be a hit with adults and children alike. Parents and teachers will be pleased to find a book they can read over and over get still enjoy. Be warned however that if you are reading it to your children that there will be a lot of discussion about pictures. It is not a book that the children will let you read without interruption.

Miss Seven is desperate for a dog and zeroed in straight away onto this book. We both loved the glossy textured cover which has a lot of very cute dogs on it. I liked the simple colours as well just using the teal grey white and red.

I liked the size of the print and the font and the illustrations are very simple but very funny and perfect for the story. This is one of those lovely picture books that can be understood without being able to read which has meant that it really appeals to my Miss Four as well. She spends a lot of time "reading" this and pointing out letters from her name. The book is perfect to give to a child to prepare them for what a dog may need if you are getting a dog as a pet or if you already have a dog and want your child to understand a bit more what life is like from a dogs point of view.

Miss Seven is able to read this and will read it to her younger sister so that has been great that she is able to confidently read a book that she really enjoys. This is a fantastic book and I can definitely recommend it.

We really loved the story and I think it is very skilfully and artfully put together. This book has definitely become one of our evening favourites and one that we do enjoy reading together.
