Blitz's warm relaxed style makes this a great book and DVD set for both kids and adults alike. With easy to follow instructions in the book, the DVD is a great add-on which makes it even easier to see the techniques in action. When trying to learn how to draw different styles from books, I've sometimes found it hard to get the hang of a certain technique by just reading how to do it, so I found watching Blitz's demonstrations made it easier to understand.
I really liked some of the examples Blitz used- such as drawing a cartoon duck out of the WORD duck! Now that was something new that I haven't seen in any other cartooning book! Plus he showed how to create cartoon characters out of single letters or numbers - another idea I haven't seen used in other books!
Having a look at the selection of Blitz's other work included on the DVD now has me wanting to go hunt the nearest bookshop for more of his books, as there seem to be quite a good selection there, including one book that shows you how to make cartoon-style crafts- definitely a good option for the kids!! Although both book and DVD contain the same information, I personally will be using the DVD more often, while saving the book for those times I can't be bothered mucking around with the laptop to play the DVD version.
If you've ever wanted to learn to draw cartoons, out of the MANY cartoon books I have read, I would strongly recommend this as one of the best ones to try!!
