Pup Patrol #2: Bush Rescue product reviews

Stamp and James are on the road again and they've brought their new friend Ace along. Stamp is happy to have a new friend, but no one has taught Ace any manners! It's up to James and Stamp to show her how to behave - if only she would listen! When Daisy Ado the Cockatoo flies into the Fourby, James decides to return her to her owner. But what's that smoky smell on the wind? There's a bushfire coming to the town of Jasper, and the local vet has his hands full. Will James, Stamp and Ace be able to save all the town pets in Jasper?

Bush Rescue is the second book in the Pup Patrol series but the third one I had read. I see there is a forth one I should track down once it is available in New Zealand. I have really enjoyed reading the other books to my girls so this was a safe bet. It would be easy for the average eight year old to read. My girls are only 5 and 6 years old so I read it to them. It consists of 10 chapters and they listened to 2 or 3 chapters each night while sipping their hot chocolate.

The story is told by Stamp a border collie who travels around with his owner James helping others especially other animals. In Bush Rescue the town of Jasper is threatened by a bush fire and they are helping the local vet reunite owners with their pets. Stamp is able to understand what the animals are saying and keep them calm in at a stressful time. I really like how this fictional story educates children how to care for their pets in a similar situation.

Since it is narrated by a dog some words have been changed to doggy talk so perfect has become pawfect but there is a glossary each chapter that explains these words along with any others the children may not understand. The children find these words funny and it just adds to the character of the book and Stamp.

This is a book I will be keeping so my girls can read it themselves when they are a bit older. My youngest is aspiring to become a vet, just as James in the story is, so she has enjoyed learning a bit more about the work they do.
