Product reviews...
At first sight, this product might not seem like much, but even after a quick flick through the book and making 3 capsters, I found that this was an awesome kit that I could use as something fun to do after I've done my school work. The cover design was good, it shows many examples of what a finished capster looks like, and with the kit supplies clearly visible beside the book, it gives you a chance to see what you are getting before you buy the product.
Even though the kit comes with 15 "klutz" bottle caps, I think that if there is still some of the custom glaze left over the same thing can be done with your own art and/or the cleaned bottle cap off certain glass drink bottles, so once the bottle caps from this book run out, you can still make more and more personalized capsters! I loved how the book had a wide range of punch-out art for you to use, and the instructions on how to make the capsters were crystal clear, and incredibly simple.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the glaze takes so long to dry, a day at the least, but once it did dry it held everything in place and added a nice glossy look. I would say that this kit should NOT be used by anyone under the age of 10 simply because the kit contains many small parts that kids could choke on, and there is the common risk of them eating the glaze. The price is good, it seems to fit the combined cost of everything in the kit and the book, so I give it a big thumbs-up. my overall opinion: this is an awesome product that I seriously enjoy, here's hoping you think the same. Have fun!
Well I have reviewed the "Mini Capsters Jewelry kit" (check it out as it's pretty cool) and was expecting that this would be the answer to my "I really want more large Capsters" comment. Unfortunately it wasn't! This kit comes with 15 bottle caps, six charms, six small googly eyes, a few sparkle jewels, two clips and two bits of wire which will make six (or eight if you ignore the instructions) rings to attach your own ribbon to. From the instructions it would appear that you are expected to use some of these as collectibles. As a mum I have to say "are you serious?" With what little is in this kit there is not much to collect. Page 3 says "all you need is you...and the stuff that comes with this book." I would disagree as I think what is provided is basically 15 Capsters and some punch outs and a few bits to provide a base and make a few Cool Collectibles (ie about six) but you actually need to be thinking way outside the square as to how you might find some function for these.
We (me and my little brood of Miss Four and Fives) decorated all 15 of our Capsters. We actually had fun doing this though the fun element went down hill when we realised we didn't have what we needed in the kit to fully make up our necklaces and bracelets as illustrated in the book. Six capsters were with charms, three with googly eyes and three with sparkles. The remaining three just got the punch-out art on them as we had run out of extras. So even stretching out the wire we could only put eight loops on. These are attached by the glaze and I can't see them surviving too long. Given that Klutz already produce the same size Capster with holes in them I can't understand why these don't have pre-made holes in them? Also every Capster had on the back of them a "100% Klutz" sticker. We couldn't get these off and they just kind of ruined the look. We glazed them and put punch-outs over the top of the stickers.
So we have eight we can use as necklaces but I have had to rummage to find ribbon to use as the kit doesn't come with any. To be honest if I was buying this for $30 I would be expecting to at least get enough to be able to complete the activity. Surely a few bits of pretty ribbon or cord so we could actually make what is illustrated in the book wouldn't hurt the company's profit margin? Also surprisingly, given you have to measure the length of wire, there is no ruler on the back page of this book either.
Already having the Mini Capsters Jewelry set I think I would rather purchase another one of these to get my extra "big Capsters"! I wouldn't buy this for $30 and would like to see Klutz adding everything you need to actually make a few necklaces, bracelets and key fobs etc (as shown in the illustrations) with this kit. Although we had fun I wouldn't recommend this product.
