The Adventures of Ook and Gluk - Kung-fu Cavemen from the Future product reviews

It's 500,001 BC, and Ook and Gluk's hometown of Caveland, Ohio, is under attack by an evil corporation from the future. When Ook, Gluk, and their little dinosaur pal Lily are pulled through a time portal to 2222, they discover a future world that's even more devastated than their own.

Luckily, they find a friend in Master Wong, a martial arts instructor who trains them in the ways of kung fu. Now all they have to do is travel back in time 502,223 years and save the day!

Ordinarily, I would have simply said "This stuff is silly, mindless and beyond drivel..." OK, I *still* say that... but I have to give it points for it's originality, and it's humble origins. I can't vouch for the statement that the creators are two young boys aged 10... but I can say that after reading this book, I wouldn't be surprised. Sure, this is definitely NOT aimed at adults, it's not educational, there are no great philosophical questions being posed, nor mysteries of the universe being solved... it's just not that kind of book... but it is a funny story, with some interestingly mature messages, created FOR kids, BY (possibly) kids.

The artwork is anatomically inaccurate, the timelines confused and misaligned, and the spelling is HORRENDOUS, so some very close adult intervention may be required if the kids start to talk about cavemen with lazerguns as though it were factual... but for something light-hearted and suitable for silly giggles on a rainy afternoon, there aren't many boxes this won't tick.

Overall, I would say this book is best aimed at young boys aged between 6-8... old enough to grasp the words - despite the spelling errors and bad grammer - but still young enough to find the juvenile humour appealing. If the authors really are young boys, they seem to have hit upon a winning formula and will probably do very well in future years if their talent matures in time with their body... they certainly seem to be prolific enough with their creativity, and big kudos to them for that!
