Product reviews...
Like it's predecessor the AWE11US this is a great unit for keeping your portable computer running cool. Now while this is more suited for a Netbook I decided to try it out on a full sized 17" laptop that I have which has a tendancy to overheat a bit. So I unpacked the unit placed it on the desk and then went about deciding where best to place the laptop on it. After a bit of thinking I placed the laptop with the mat towards the back of it (which was where it gets the hottest anyway), and also seemed to be an ideal balancing spot as most of the laptops weight is located towards the back anyway.
So i plugged the USB cable from the mat into the laptop and fired everything up, and I ran the laptop for a good hour running some pretty intensive benchmarking program in order to really stress the laptop and get it running hot, after an hour I put my hand on the spot at the back of the laptop where it normally gets excruciatingly hot and almost can burn ones hand, and to my surprise it was noticeably cooler, it was still hot but wasn't going to cook my fingers. And best of all my laptop hadn;t shut down due to thermal overload.
Now considering how good a job this did for a full sized power hungry laptop I can only imagine that used with one of the multitude of Netbooks that are available today it will have them running so cool, it would almost be like running it in a fridge. Okay well maybe not that cool, but certainly cool enough that you can sit it on your lap without having to run the risk of suffering third degree burns after an hour or two of use. .
