The Wheel of Time has captivated a generation of readers, becoming an international bestseller. Now RObert Jordan brings us the thrilling penultimate volume in this ground-breaking fantasy epic.
As the very fabric of reality wears thin all portents indicate that Tarmon Gai'don, the last battle, is imminent - and Rand al'Thor must ready himself to confront the Dark One. But first Rand must first negotiate a truce with the Seanchan armies, as their forces increasingly sap his strength.
Yet the Seanchan are but one obsitcal in his path.
Perrin has made his own desperate truce with the Seachan - he would deal with the Dark One himself to save his wife Faile from the Shaido. Meanwhile, Mat is caught up in a reckless escape from Ebou Dar with the kidnapped Daughter of the Nine Moons. But Toun is in fact in deadly danger from her Seachan countrymen. Mat will have to risk much to prevail and still win her as his bride.
All is in flux as established powers falter... In Caemlyn, Elayne fights to gain the Lion Thron while trying to avery a civil war and Egwene finds that even the White Tower is no longer a place of safety.
The winds of time have whirled into a storm and Rand and his companions ride in the vortex. This small company must prevail against the trials of fate and fortune - or the Dark One will triumph and the world will be lost.

For years a friend badgered me to read the Wheel of Time books, but I get stubborn and wouldn't, just out of spite...
And then last summer I ran out of books and needed something to read so I picked up my flatmate's copy of the first one...
Luckily he had all of them, as I was hooked!
Of course there was then the impatient wait for book 11...
Then it came out... ~does a lil dance~
It took a while to wade through the prologue - and a couple of others I know who have read it said the same, but once that was done, it was into the book and loving it.
A fairly large portion of the book focused on Perrin and Mat's stories this time rather than so much about Rand, as well as Elayne's battle to win the Lion Throne and Egwene's time in the White Tower.
There was little to be told of Nynaeve, Min or Aviendha who are all characters I enjoy, so that was a little disappointing.
The other thing that was missing was much about the Forsaken, which gives the balance to the story, telling us about what is happening on the Dark One's side...
The last couple of books have felt very 'unfinished' to me, like they should have been printed together rather than apart.... whereas this one was more of a solid read, there was more of a sense of purpose to it.
It was kind of like the previous books were setting the background for what was to come (and in a way they were, of course) and now the story is beginning to hype itself up to the grand final event... Tarmon Gai'don!
During the book it was lovely to see Tuon grow as a character and prove she would be a worthy partner for Mat. I thoroughly enjoyed the slow downslide of Elaida's rule within the White Tower and Egwene's subtle but constant efforts to be seen as the true Amyrlin Seat. Plus much more, but I wont give away too much.
There were many clues left to suggest there will be a vast amount of goings on in the next book, and to be honest I think there will be some big surprises to come...
It will be interesting to see if Mr Jordan manages to fit all that I can foresee happening into that one last book!
If you are a fan of the rest of the Wheel of Time books, then best ye get thee to the nearest bookstore to buy this, as it's a must read!
