Butter Chicken is very popular in our household while we enjoy a variety of curries I think butter chicken is the most popular due to the mildness and flavour that even the children can enjoy. I have used a variety of different create at home sauces so was keen to give this one a try as often with make at home sauces you don't get that authenticity that you get with an indian restaurant curry. This was not one of those even when the curry itself was cooking my house smelt like an indian restaurant making it harder to wait for the meal to be ready.

The instructions were so easy to follow and I liked that you got to see all the different herbs and spices in the packet, and lightly toasting these in the hot oil you could already smell the aroma's coming out. I can't say I recognised all the different ingredients but they definitely had a great taste. With the three simple steps it was such an easy curry to make so I would certainly buy this again to get that authentic taste at home without a lot of fuss.

The resulting butter chicken dish was delicious and everyone in the family agreed there was no denying that it was an authentic tasting butter chicken dish. It was mild as the packet suggested which is great for a family as heat doesn't suit everyone. I personally don't mind a bit of heat in a curry but I think you could quite easily add extra chilli if that was more to your taste so could easily be adaptable.

Ever since I can remember I have been a lover of spicy foods, my all time favourite though has got to be butter chicken. I am the first to admit that cooking from scratch does not come naturally to me, my partner is the kind of cook that doesn't need recipes or store bought sauces and his cooking turns out perfect. When I saw that the Street Kitchen had a North Indian Butter Chicken packet available to review, I crossed my fingers and submitted my request.

As soon as I opened my box of review products I was greeted with a delicious aroma which came from the packet. I admired the packaging to begin with as it looks a lot different to other similar products. I loved the fact that you could see the different pouches of sauce, spice mix and paste. The front of the pack is very eye catching and I think the company has done a great job designing it because if I saw it on a shelf I would definitely pick it up to investigate it. The contents of the package are for 4 servings.

When it came time to cook it I liked how simple the instructions were to follow. While preparing the butter chicken I was a little concerned about how much sauce I would end up with by the time it got served, I didn't need to worry there was plenty of sauce and it teamed well with the rice. The gorgeous smell while cooking was simply mouthwatering, however, my children were not too keen. The flavour was incredible, it tasted like an authentic butter chicken that I would purchase at a restaurant, and I couldn't believe it had been made in my kitchen. This was labelled 'Mild' on the packet which was just right for my children - I personally could have done with it being a bit spicier.

I highly recommend this product to anyone that loves spicy food and likes to cook at home. I am looking forward to trying more of the Street Kitchen brand of products in the near future.

I was brought up on curries, so I'm always interested in trying different recipes and finding faster ways to prepare meals in my busy day-to-day life. This product appeals for a number of reasons. Firstly, the product contains three sachets; the butter chicken sauce, a garlic and ginger paste, and a spice mix. Having three sachets gives greater control over the flavour, as you can adjust proportions of each sachet independently, to suit your own tastes. Secondly, most similar products require you to add your own onion, garlic, and ginger, as these are generally added to the meat before the rest of the sauce. Therefore having this available as a separate sachet included, means it's one less step I have to worry about, and less extra ingredients I have to purchase. Lastly, the product doesn't contain rice. While most curries do sit on a bed of rice, I'm trying to reduce my carbohydrate intake, so I prefer having the option to choose the type and quantity myself, which again gives me greater control over the flavour.

The product is simple to prepare, as the directions are very straightforward. The packaging explains what is included in the pack, lists what additional products are needed (with optimal quantities for the amount of product provided. The cooking instructions that follow are very descriptive, it warns early of what ingredients will be needed next, it explains what sounds you should hear and includes tips to adjust the smoothness and the thickness and consistency of the curry. Very thorough, and well explained.

Going through the cooking instructions, I found that the meal took much longer to prepare. This was no fault of the product but instead was due to a large amount of water in the chicken that I purchased, which meant the meal required a lot more simmering. I also had no rice in the pantry, so in order to give the meal the appropriate look, I experimented with some Maggi noodles. Crushing the 2-minute noodles into rice sized pieces, I poured it into a mug, with some boiling water, and allowed it to fully soak it up, cooking the rice, but ensuring it had a dry texture that the butter chicken sauce could stick to.

As with most multi-serving meals, I found it certainly wasn't what I would consider 3-4 servings. I'm a large stomached male, who loves his meat, so it ended up making one meal and one snack. The product is self-described as having a mild creamy tomato based curry sauce, and I certainly can't disagree with it. I did, however, find the ginger and garlic paste remained the dominant flavour all the way through. Perhaps the water in the chicken cooled the pan too much, but as this seems to be the state of the chicken these days, I would in future, either add the curry paste directly to the pan without marinating the meat or reduce the amount of paste I use, as the garlic gave a sharpness to the meal that cut through the otherwise mild and creamy flavour.

But the meal was easy to prepare, and with a reduction in the curry paste, and the addition of some birds eye chilli (I love a bit of heat to my curries), this meal is an ideal choice. With a shelf-life of around a year, it can happily sit in my pantry, and the affordable price means it could very well become a regular meal. It fits in the budget.

If you asked me what my favourite cuisine is, without a doubt it would have to be Indian. I love everything about it, the aromatic spices, the rich sauces, the heat and the feeling of the exotic with every bite. Long have I tried to recreate the curry of the Indian takeaway in my own kitchen, however I'm always left with something mildly disappointing- not rich enough, not aromatic enough of just a bit lack lustre. Even the jars of sauce that you can buy pre-made just aren't quite the same. For this reason I was really keen to try this Street Kitchen curry from Passage Foods. I was really intrigued by the package design- the whole herbs and spices in particular looking promising to make a more authentic meal.

So, with a sense of hope, I tore into the packet. Reading the instructions on the inside of the packet, it seemed very easy- use the marinade packet over the meat (in our case chicken) and set aside, then fry off the spices, add the chicken and cover in sauce, leaving to simmer until cooked through. Being a bit of a rebel (and, much to my Hubby's dismay, determined to get 8 serves of veggie into us each day) I decided I would go off piste a little and cook off some onion, kumara and mushrooms to add to the mix. I also added in some pre cooked chickpeas for the last 5 minutes of cooking time (because you can never have enough pulses right...).

So, most importantly, the taste. We were very impressed, it was rich, creamy and not too tomatoey (Hubby hates tomatoes which is why, traditionally, we have tended to steer clear of butter chicken sauces). It had a really nice aromatic note from the herbs and spices, and the marinade of garlic and ginger on the chicken had made a huge difference, making every mouthful that little bit more flavourful. Served with rice the packet made enough for our family of three (two adults and one child) plus enough for two lunch-sized portions for the next day. And those lunch portions were where things really got interesting. The flavour had really developed overnight since cooking, so when (separately) we both tucked into our lunch the next day, we had to text each other to say "OMG- curry really good today".

So, this curry was a real revelation for me- easy to prepare, genuine aromatic spices and marinade making the difference to the sauce. If you can resist the temptation to eat it straight away, leave it overnight in the fridge as the flavour keeps on developing, giving you an even better result. Overall, a great product providing a healthier (in our case anyway) and easy alternative to takeaways.

We live extremely busy lives and when it comes to dinner I need something fast and yummy. Rice, Pasta, Slow Cooker, Noodle dishes are mainly on the menu and when you can give me a sauce that can tie the dish together I am sold. We have eaten a lot of Butter Chicken lately and to be honest the last couple of times have been really sickly and I have not been able to finish the plate, so I was rather concerned about this dish.

First thing first I love the information sheet, reading about India and the markets brought a smile to my face and I could just imagine the hustle and bustle of the food vendors. It is packed with so much information and also gives you a very simple recipe to follow. I put the rice into the rice maker and while that was cooking made the Butter Chicken following the recipe - what could by easier? I had to run outside to the car and came back in and was automatically meet with the most fragrant of smells, it hit me as soon as I opened the door. It smelt beautiful and the house still has a whiff of it going thru the various rooms from the kitchen.

Dishing up is always easy, put rice on the plate followed by the butter chicken. I was glad it was not as red as the previous butter chicken we have had and more are brownish colour. The smell again was amazing and I could not wait to taste. I am so glad that the taste was as good as the smell and it felt like I was eating fragrance which is a welcome change. The sauce covered the meal beautifully and it has got to be one of the best home made Butter Chicken I have ever had.

Everyone agreed that it was a perfect dish and not as Tomato rich as we have been having. I like the seeds that I kept getting thru out the meal and was pleasantly surprised by the whole dish, it also was not spicy and next time I am keen to add the cream to see how that changes the consistency of the sauce. The dish has made me so excited that I am dying to find out what other meals Street Kitchen provide, because if they are anything like this I have got to try it. It mentioned Chicken Tikka and Tandoor skewers which has my imagination jumping a million miles.

Definitely a meal we will be having again very soon and a company I am very excited about. Thank you for bringing my love of Butter Chicken back.

Hands down this is the best Butter Chicken I have made at home. It was simple, quick and delicious. What more could I ask for in a make-it-yourself curry? The package it all arrived in looked classy and I really liked how you could see all the stuff in the individual packages without having to open it all up.

There are usually two different ways people make Butter Chicken, the creamy way and the tomato way, this packet was definitely more geared towards the tomato way but you could make it creamier if you decided to add your own fresh cream to the mix, I think this is a good way to do it because then the consumer can decide how much cream to add and adjust it to their own taste buds.

Currently we are trying out a lower carb lifestyle so opted to use cauliflower cous cous instead of rice but this was the only real modification we did. We followed the instructions on the packet to make the Butter Chicken mix. It smelled great simmering away in the pan. There was enough food for 2 adults and 2 children, one child didn't want hers so my husband and I finished it off, although we didn't really need the extra, we just liked it so much we couldn't help ourselves. It would have been nice to have a bit extra for lunch the next day so maybe slightly larger packets would be good.

The flavour was very tomato based, as mentioned above, and didn't have very much hot spice to it at all but certainly had a heap of flavour. You can adjust the creaminess youself by adding more cream if desired or leaving it as it is, we opted to leave it as it was because we thought it was perfect and we didn't want to take away any of the flavours.

The only thing I wasn't particularly fond of was some of the cassia sticks and cardamon pods that made it's way into the mix, it wasn't a very pleasant experience biting down on either of those but I do understand that they add to the flavor of the dish so it's a small price to pay for a meal that really was delicious. In hindsight, we should probably have removed these prior to serving up the bowls.

I am a great fan of butter chicken so I was keen to try this product. It is always interesting to try a new variation as there are regional differences in the spice proportions, so this would be a fun experience. I followed the ingredients to the letter, choosing a packet of chilled chicken breast which was exactly 600g and a small bottle of cream to add at the end. I often experiment with ingredients, even when it is the first time I am trying a recipe, but on this occasion I felt it important to follow the guidelines exactly.

I liked the packaging - although see-through, it was robust enough to survive being squashed in a supermarket bag to transport home, and each ingredient was wrapped separately and clearly labelled. The instructions were on a separate cardboard sleeve so there was no need to try to read off the side of a sticky plastic outer that had just been emptied out. Full marks for sensible and very user friendly packaging!

The recipe made enough (with rice and some salad served separately) to feed three hungry people. The packet stated that it would feed 3-4 so this was about right, although I think there would not be quite enough for four people unless there were lots more sides. We all felt that the quantity was about right for us. The cooking process was straightforward and took under half an hour from start to finish.

I liked the flavour, but it was not really butter chicken as I know it. Even with the allowance for variations in recipe, I thought that there was too much tomato. It took over the other flavours and masked the creaminess that I normally associate with this dish. I could taste some of the spices but they definitely took second place to the tomato. Not that it was unpleasant; on the contrary it was extremely tasty. It just was not quite butter chicken!

I asked my two colleagues what they thought. One agreed with me; he thought the tomato overshadowed the other ingredients and also felt it was a bit too sweet. He said that with less tomato the sweetness would be reduced as well, and the other spices would become more prominent. However, my other friend really liked it and said he had never yet met a butter chicken he did not like! So I guess it is very much an individual taste thing.

I did like it, and would buy it again because the cost is actually very reasonable - and the ingredients are measured so there are no leftover spices to store. And it would be an easy meal to prepare while travelling - for example, in a motel kitchen - because it does not generate that strong curry smell which some motel owners might not appreciate. So overall, a pleasant meal which each of us enjoyed in his or her own way.

Butter chicken is an absolute favourite in our house, and something that my partner will often request for dinner if he feels we haven't had it in a while (which can often only be a week to long in his eyes!), so when Miss 4 decided out of the blue that she now loves butter chicken he was rather happy as it meant I was more likely to cook it often for him, it's so much easier to make a dish the whole family will eat than 2 separate meals to keep everyone happy.

When I saw the Street Kitchen North Indian Butter Chicken up for review I was keen to give it a try, I loved the fact that it had EVERYTHING that you needed in this little kit other than the rice and chicken and also the fact that it contained a pouch of real whole herbs and spices, as I must admit as much as we love butter chicken our butter chicken does come out of a fellow companies pouch in which I'd say it is very processed, and still needs several ingredients including cream to make the sauce, it obviously tastes good but this just seemed much easier and better for us.

Funnily enough driving home with my review goods I could smell an Indian spice in my car and realised that this must have been from the sauce, same thing at home every time I opened the pantry there was the smell, as much as I found it to be a tad annoying I was also pleased as you could this product was really made of quality ingredients and that this would mean it was going to be full of flavour, always a good thing. In the pack were 3 separate pouches which were all well sealed and easy to open by pulling across the plastic rip in the packets. The packaging I loved the colds were bold and really stood out and I loved the different textures used on this and how they had not wasted any space it was really interesting to read all about the history behind the delicious dish that is Butter Chicken on the inside of the cardboard.

When it came to preparing this dish it could not have been easier, the well labeled packaged food cases really helped with this. I first popped my diced chicken into a dish and let it marinade in garlic and ginger paste, while I heated the frypan with the oil. Next came the step which you really need to ensure you read, after heating the oil to a very HIGH heat you add the spice mix NOT the chicken, you will know if it is hot enough after you hear a crackling noise, you only leave this for about 5 seconds before adding the marinated chicken to the mix, this is done to release the flavours from the herbs and spices. Once the chicken is sealed you add the Butter Chicken Sauce and leave to simmer until cooked through. THroughout the cooking process the smell was amazing full of a rich aroma of herbs and spices, it smelt just like butter chicken should. The only thing I will admit had me a bit unsure was if or when to remove some of the larger herbs from the pan, as there were some big bits such as the cardamon pods and the cassia stick, this wasn't mentioned so I chose to do so anyone, I'm sure no one wanted to be eating a cassia stick after all?

Taste Wise amazing! One of the best butter chickens I have had full of flavour, rich and creamy and not to spicy at all, the balance of tomato and spice flavors was spot on, the whole family loved this served with rice and naan bread and it made a heap that there was a lot left over which I turned into butter chicken pies for dinner the next day, however this time around I decided to make the sauce a bit creamier so added some greek yoghurt as I had no cream on hand, and I can tell you eating this with the greek yoghurt and the following day was even better. Miss 4 kept asking for more and my partner said it was a lot more like what you would get at an Indian takeaway than our usual sauce we use.

This is sure to be a butter chicken I will buy again, I think the price is great value for money as it contains everything you need, and most importantly it tastes delicious. I can't wait to find it at my local supermarket one day soon.
