The D-Link N300 Wireless Repeater is a very nifty device. Packing a powerful punch into such a small little unit, I was skeptical. Being a good kiwi bloke, all I did is open the box, remove the repeater, plug it directly onto the supplied power pack and plug that into an available wall outlet in the workshop. Next I pressed the WPS WiFi Protected Setup button on the router and returned to the N300 and did the same. A couple of handshake lights later we were off!
The connectivity issues we experience in the workshop mean that there is a no mans land when you go outside the workshop door for WiFi reception and connectivity. I placed the N300 Extender at the door essentially extending the range as if the router was actually located at the back door.
It really was as simple as that. No instructions to read (they are there if you want to have a read) but really no tricky passwords or combinations of buttons to press. There are just 3 simple lights on the front to indicate signal strength and power on. The amazing part about this is what the N300 packs in its features department.
WPS - already used to seamlessly connect to an existing router of a different brand. Autozone Technology - this is a great feature that lends its technology to the cellular towers and cells overhead. When the signal is weakening at the main router as the user moves across its range to the workshop door its connectivity is handed over to the N300 seamlessly allowing you to go outside and to the other back shed while still connected. One-Touch App - this lets you use a smartphone to configure and connect your device.
This device also clones the SSID so you wont have another SSID to be discovered or confused by when looking to connect to your router. All in all I love this device and cannot fault it. So easy to set up and use, there isn't a lot to say about it, it just works. Well!
