Dark Lord of Derkholm product reviews

Mr. Chesney operates Pilgrim Parties, a tour group that takes paying participants into an outer realm where the inhabitants play frightening and foreboding roles. The time has come to end the staged madness . . . but can it really be stopped? Master storyteller Diana Wynne Jones serves up twists and turns, introduces Querida, Derk, Blade, and Shona and a remarkable cast of wizards, soldiers, kings, dragons, and griffins, and mixes in a lively dash of humor. With all the ingredients of high fantasy, this unforgettable novel will delight fans old and new.

I got this book eleven years ago for my sixteenth birthday, I loved the book then and I still love it now. This book takes the concept that wizards, griffins, magic and so forth actually do exist, they're just on a world next door to ours. One man found a way to that world and once a year holds a "Pilgrim Party' to this world, and thanks to his air tight contract there is nothing that our next door world can do. The inhabitants have finally had enough and they seek help, unfortunately for Derk and his son Blade, they are the ones to save he world, but for us that's a great thing.

This is such an entertaining book and one that provided so much fun and laughter, Diana Wynne Jones is a brilliant author (though I only just found out today that she passed away in 2011, such a shame for the book world) and this book is one of my favorite books from all she wrote. I flicked through this book just now and settled upon a page and before I knew it I'm hooked again and had read a couple of pages, this is written so well that you are fully entertained and you want to keep reading. This world is unique and so well written that I'm going to re-read it and its sequel this week.

Product image for Ko Nga Whetu Hauhau, Ko Nga Whetu Tarakaka O Matariki: Ko Waipunarangi Raua Ko UrurangiMany tourists visit the wild and windy Te Mata Hapuku (Birdlings Flat) in search of beautiful agate stones. But not everyone sees the magic there.

Sam and Te Rerehua love to spend time there listening to Grandma's stories about the stars in the Matariki cluster. This time she tells them about two more stars, Waipunarangi, who looks after the rain, and Ururangi, who is the whetu of wind. The children also love to go eeling with ... more...
