When I became a Mum, I was introduced to the fantastic book 'Guess How Much I Love you'. The characters and illustrations are really wonderful. Watching the DVD 'Guess How Much I Love You - Father and Son', I feel that they have managed to capture the look and feel of the book perfectly in the animations. The voices of the characters also sound just like I imagined they would be when I read the book.
The messages that the story portrays are just gorgeous. It was so special watching Little Nutbrown Hare lying down on the grass with his Dad looking at all the stars. The stories and themes in the DVD depict love, fun, enjoyment and relationships between father and son. They are all innocent and totally suitable for young children (unlike so many cartoons these days).
"Guess how much I love you?"
"How much?"
"All the way to the moon"
And I love you all the way to the moon and back"
I think these are now quotes that most parents and children know and use in their everyday family life. I know that bedtime in our house wouldn't be completed properly without going through this little ritual with Mr Four. That shows that these stories have become a favourite for parents and children alike in this generation.
The DVD is divided into eight episodes and they are around ten minutes each. They are a great length for young children. I sat down with Miss Two and Mr Four and they were both totally engrossed. The length and simplicity of each episode allowed for even little Miss Two to maintain her interest. As a parent, I was able to decide how many episodes the children were allowed to watch in a sitting without the children feeling like they were having to stop watching part the way through a movie.
In each episode, there is a nice combination of narration at the beginning and end and the dialogue between Big Nutbrown Hare and Little Nut Brown Hare. There is lovely lyrical music to accompany the stories. The characters are simple and wholesome. This is a set DVD that I am happy for my children to watch and I know that it is safe for them to enjoy.
