Chuggington: Chug-A-Sonic product reviews

Trainee engines Brewster Koko and Wilson just love pretending to be Action Chugger, Chuggington's very own jet-propelled film star. So any chance to meet their real life super-hero is just the ticket!

In these fantastic adventures they get to do just that as Koko and Brewster put their stunt skills to use and Action Chugger crashes on the way to the film set. The superhero takes Hodge into space and learns to be an 'ordinary' Chugger while Brewster is inspired to make his own film. Meanwhile there's more traintastic excitement as a dangerous bridge threatens to ruin Brewster's big day and Toot plays sick to avoid track inspection with her twin brother Hoot.

I had had friends little boys who were right into Chuggington but I had never seen it I don't know if it wasn't around when she was younger or if she just never saw it as her preschool DVD's were mostly Bob the Builder. I wanted to give it a watch to see what it was like, I expected it to be a lot like Thomas the Tank Engine which it was in some ways with it being centered around trains, and learning to do jobs on the rail lines, with the trainees Koko, Wilson, and Brewster learning how to ride the rails and making small mistakes along the way much like Thomas does in his adventures.

The trains are very modern compared to Thomas the Tank Engine so I would say it is a very modern twist on the classic Thomas. The stories in this DVD were set around the Chuggers as they are called learning new stunts that will help them with their work along the rail lines. They have guidance from the experienced locomotives and the railroad workers like Action Chugger to help them learn lessons like how to be a good listener, being honest, and the value of friendship. For this reason I think it is really age appropriate to pre school children as it has nice themes and subtle lessons.

I liked how it was divided so you could play it per episode as it was quite a long DVD at 70 minutes, we watched a couple of episodes at a time, and then watched the shorter badge quest episodes. The badge quest episodes were really short were one of the engines earned a badge by doing a quest like using a gps to find their way home. This episode made me laugh as the GPS was telling Wilson the wrong ways to go. I liked this though as it showed things that children these days can relate to so it is definetly modern.

As always with these DVD's my son loved the theme song and took it as opportunity to have a dance every time it came on which was at the beginning and end of each episode so he had plenty of opportunity to have a groove. He really seemed to like the DVD but his attention only lasted one episode at a time. I think it is definetly age appropriate and I'm sure he will get plenty of use out of it as he gets a little bit older.
