I really enjoyed Potato Music. It is a very heartfelt story about a family whom are surviving through war. The author; Christina Booth has a very gentle way of explaining the impact of war on this family.

When boots are marching past the house, the family of three decide to play the piano and dance to the music to keep out the sound of the screaming planes flying by.

The child in the story does not have a name, and her parents are just known as Ma and Pa.

Ma and Pa show their daughter that even in hard times there is one thing that cannot be taken away from you. Even when the piano is confiscated, they show their daughter that even without a piano they still have music around them and in their hearts.

I think this would be a very handy book for children to understand what war is.

I would definitely recommend this book.

Product reviews for listing 9271: At Home on the Farm
Written by Ned Barraud

Product image for At Home on the FarmAn exploration of life on a New Zealand farm during a long, dry spell. Through lyrical rhyming text, readers are taken on a journey across paddocks, barns, and treetops, encountering the animals and landscapes that make up the farm's rich ecosystem. From the circling kahu in the sky to the hardworking sheepdogs, restless horses, and a watchful rooster, each page captures the rhythms of rural life. As drought grips the land, the farm waits in anticipation-until, at last, the rain arrives, bringing renewal and relief.
