Stopped in on impulse and what a surprise. We were greeted by happy smiling staff, shown to an available table right by the free all-you-can-eat salad bar. I was then led to the cooking area and introduced to the cook. (I wouldnt dare degrade what this wonderful person does by calling them a chef!) I was then asked if we wished to select our cuts of meat from those visible in the chilled display cabinet, but I could see they were all equally excellent cuts, so returned to sit with my family.
Both adults chose the Rump Steak, and this proved to be an excellent option. Perfectly cooked, tender, full of flavour and served with baked potatoes and some garlic and pepper sauce. A side plate from the salad bar was also grabbed. Though the range available in this salad bar wasn't as comprehensive as other restaurants, the quality of the food was highly commendable.
When it came time to leave, the bill was a little scary, but quality costs, and we left with lighter wallets but very full bellies and satisfied smiles. Well worth a visit if you are passing through Palmerston North.

While waiting at home one night, expecting yet another chicken dinner, I was called up and asked 'You wanna go out for some dead, seared critter?' My response being 'Hell, yeah!'

We arrived at the restaurant and had a search on our hands for a parking space. Heading inside, we were quickly and courteously shown to our table. Soon after, our meal orders were taken. After what felt like a really long time (it wasn't, just that my rumbling stomach was thinking I was gonna starve...) the lovely young waitress came to our table with our meals. Both my dinner companion and I opted for Porterhouse steaks. I had mine rare with garlic (crushed and in a sauce), while my friend had a medium (truly-dead) steak with garlic butter and a pepper sauce.

Conversation slowed down to a trickle as we consumed our perfectly cooked steaks and sampled the many, varied salads.

In closing, I had a great time, an awesome meal and brilliant company.

Many years ago, I had cause to complain at a local restaurant. I had ordered a $10.00 rump steak with garlic sauce, side salad, and a dessert. A damn good price for a 2-course dinner. My complaint: "This steak is so good, you have spoiled my appetite for any other!" This was said to the chef who prepared it, an imposing chap indeed. His response, a mixture of annoyance and relief. "I heard you say 'complaint' and I thought, just what I need right now, a complaining customer." he later admitted to me over a beer.

Fast-forward the clock almost a decade, and you will now find this masterful Steakmeister behind the impressive grill at Steak Out. This man still holds the (somewhat dubious) distinction of being the only man, other than myself, who cooks steaks EXACTLY the way I like them. I am a fickle steak-eater, and he always seems to know how to prepare them just the way I like them at that very moment in time.

So, driving past I decide to splurge and treat myself after a week of 18-hour days, and have a steak dinner. I need more iron in my diet anyways, don't we all. It's 9:15pm. The door opens, the place is nearly empty, and I ask "Are you still open?" "Sorry, we closed about 10 minutes ago." I turn to the Manager, the very same Steakmeister, and ask "What time do you shut the doors here dude?" "Depends on how busy we are." "Any chance of sliding a single booking in then? Just a nice steak, I trust you what cut is best tonight, medium, with garlic and pepper. The rest I leave in your expert hands. What say ya?" "OK, slot him in."

So, a Scotch Fillet, drizzled in pepper sauce, with a knob of garlic butter soon arrives on my table, steaming and sizzling away with a side of herbed shoestring fries. I fill my saladplate with diced capsicum, tomato and cucumbers, some herb pasta, and a dash of coleslaw, and sit down to eat.

As the knife glides through the tender slab of heaven, I once again marvel at his mastery of meat. This is melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Tender, tasty, still soft and pink in the middle... even now, feeling full almost to the point of being uncomfortable, I think of it and want to order seconds! And that was nearly 4 hours ago!

With a wide range of cuts of beef, chicken and other meats, there are also wedges and entree's galore. The bar and eating areas are rigged out in basic polished natural timbers, with discrete use of brushed and stainless steel for accent. A TV in the bar, which has an impressive array of bottles and taps too.

Overall, I was once again impressed with this place. I used to be a regular under the previous owner, but times changed and I moved to the other side of town and got a more demanding job, so had to take an enforced vacation from my favourite dining venue. I am really glad to see nothing has changed, you are still served the best food, by the nicest people, in the neatest venue I know. Well done guys! Keep it up.

When zingy, tangy raspberry meets smooth and creamy milk chocolate, sparks fly, making it a match made in heaven. It's a flavour combination that we Kiwis love.

We batch roast whole almonds to crunchy, nutty perfection, then lovingly double dip them in two layers of creamy milk chocolate. We then dust them with tangy raspberry to make your taste buds zing. Open up and say NOM. You're welcome.
