Gingerbread House product reviews

Once upon a time a witch lived alone in her house in the depths of the forest. Her favorite hobby was baking yummy gingerbread; in fact, she loved gingerbread so much that she built her entire house out of it. Unfortunately, she wasn't the only one who loved it! Rude fairy tale characters passing by were eating away her walls, windows, and doors! One day, the witch decided that she'd had enough of them all helping themselves and, paying attention to which types of gingerbread these greedy intruders liked the most, she came up with an idea on how to get rid of them once and for all...

In Gingerbread House, you place domino-like tiles in a 3 by 3 grid, covering symbols that provide you with four different types of gingerbread and special actions. Tiles may also be placed on existing types of tiles, forming a 3D structure in front of you. Covering two of the same symbol is extremely valuable as it provides a bonus gingerbread or action. Victory points are awarded for building the tallest structure, completing orders by discarding sets of gingerbread, as well as being the quickest to achieve certain conditions. In the end, the player with the most victory points wins.

Gingerbread House has you take on the roll of the witch, one who has gotten so fed up with all the fairytale creatures eating it, that now you are actively trying to lure them into your home. All players start off with a base board and then a set number of house tiles (amount differs depending on number of players) and game continues until all those tiles are used up. Each time you place a tile, you gain what it covers - a staircase, so you can build more levels - a cage, which allows you to gain a particular character card so no one else can claim it - gingerbread tokens, of which you can the corresponding token (unless you cover two of the same token in which case you get three of that one).

The character cards vary in points, so you can go for quick and easy and get just a couple of points or really try to stack up your gingerbread tokens for a higher payout. Each time you catch a character you get a wild tile, which you play immediately and gain what it covers and then when it is covered, gives you anything you want. If you complete a full level in the house then you gain a bonus card which will give you points at the end (a simple game you just get the points listed on one side, for a harder game you only get the points if you meet the requirements). I was surprised at how much the kids enjoyed this one, it was a random little find on a discount table.
