A love letter and hate mail to the alpha male.
This story's alpha is Mitch who lives buried in suburban London, having turned his back on his previous life of casual violence and intimidation as part of a legendary South East London firm.
In the modern day he's the doyen of respectability and quiet confidence. The Guv'nors holds a mirror up to Mitch and shows him his inner monster once again, buried deep in both DNA and psyche, desperate to break out and wreak havoc.

I usually find gang movies to be predictable and boring and rather repetative but I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I am more an American kind of girl and usually avoid the British ones when I can help it. Besides the occasional mumbling and the adjusting sound of the movie, I found I really enjoyed the acting, script and the movie in general.
When a pack of violent youths wanting to make a name for themselves attack the wrong person it all takes a turn for the worst. Old vrs young, fist vrs knives and guns, girls vrs boys, boys vrs girls it doesn't matter when its a turf war where earning your name is the biggest prize.
One thing that was rather off putting was how they glorified the older gangs as they apparently had more credibility in their actions. Everything the older generation had done in the past and now was supposedly more noble compared to the younger ones when in fact they are both as bad as each other. Picking on a weaker person does not make you strong, neither does a gang of 6 attacking a helpless old man with a bat. I found the justification in the actions to be rather questionable at times.
The movie does bring about some strong emotions and to start with you are routing for the older generation. I think only because the younger group are more on par with what we face currently. But then as the movie progresses you actually end up despising both groups. Really the only difference between them all is the older ones have learnt the error of their ways, they have grown up, got families, jobs and learnt life lessons and yet they are still ready to throw all that away just to get revenge.
When you set aside your own morals and just sit there and stop judging and watch it for what it is I am surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It is a little in your face at times with the street violence and needless attacks but for the subject of the movie it all fits together nicely. A tad predictable in places but yet it still has some nice twists. It actually has a good pace to it and found I was not bored at all. Really besides a few niggles a really watchable movie.
