Planet 51 product reviews

When Chuck the astronaut (Dwayne Johnson) lands on a distant planet filled with little green people, he is surprised to discover that we are not alone in the galaxy. But he gets the shock of his life when the residents of Planet 51 mistakenly believe that his presence is the start of an alien invasion of the human kind! Luckily, Lem (Justin Long) quickly realizes that Chuck is friendly and makes it his personal mission to help him return safely to his ship.

This was a movie that my kids saw sitting on the shelf and asked if they could watch it over and over, so we finally gave in and rented it and subsequently bought it on DVD. The kids wanted to watch it because of the aliens, the robot and the alien dog on the cover. For myself, I loved the twist on the typical alien stranded on Earth and made it a human stranded and trying to survive on the alien planet, plus the baby 'Alien' dog was delightful and I loved that nod to a famous movie.

This is a fun plot and I do love the switching everything around, then there is the fact that all the aliens look like they're stuck in Earth's 1950's when it came to movies, the nod to lovers lane and the clothing that all the characters are wearing in this movie. The voice actors all do a goo job, I didn't even realize that it was Dwayne Johnson voicing the astronaut. Everything in this movie works so well together, the actors, the plot, the lines, right down to the music.

The kids really do enjoy this movie and we had to play it for movie night with my mother, so it worked out to be a great family film.

Las Vegas showroom magician Cris Johnson has a secret which torments him: he can see a few minutes into the future. Sick of the examinations he underwent as a child and the interest of the government and medical establishment in his power, he lies low under an assumed name in Vegas, performing cheap tricks and living off small-time gambling "winnings." But when a terrorist ... more...
