1997 was a busy year. We spent 4 months, 2 tonnes of beans and a touch of tennis elbow making a gazillion cups of coffee. The last one was perfect. Smooth, full, premium, with an overlying taste sensation of sweet chocolate. It was a true disciple of simple philosophy - 'it should be delicious'. and so it is, from the very first sip to the rich and rewarding after taste. Enjoy.
Comes in a 200g bag.

The smell of freshly ground coffee is something that we love to waft through our house. We think that drinking it is pretty important too! When I picked this packet up, my first instinct was to sniff the pack through the little air holes at the back. I must say that it was a very pleasing experience.
It is pretty impressive when you get a pack of coffee and find that it has won 29 NZ & International awards! I was looking forward to tasting how good it was.
The packet contains whole coffee beans and this is clearly marked on the front of the pack. We prefer the whole bean option as we have a grinder and it allows us to have nice freshly ground coffee available.
My husband got the job of grinding the coffee beans. He made up enough to make a couple of single serve plungers. He used about one and a half dessert spoons of ground coffee to make up each plunger. When I tasted the coffee, I found that it had a nice velvety and mild flavour. There wasn't a hint of burned flavour or nasty after-taste. The pleasurable taste went right through from the initial sip to the taste sitting in my mouth after the cup was finished. Sometimes I find that coffee is too strong or has a harsh after-taste. This coffee was just to my liking. My husband does prefer a stronger, darker coffee. Of course, all tastes are different.
The packaging of this coffee is simple and elegant. The colours have been kept to a minimum and therefore makes it stand out on a shelf in the supermarket. It also means that any text written on the pack is easy to read in a hurry. As I type this review, I am reading the back of the pack and I am sure that Karajoz Coffee Co. Ltd will be pleased to know that what they have written on the back about it being delicious "from the very first sip to the rich and rewarding after taste" is pretty much what I have written about it in my previous paragraphs. It is always nice when the consumer experiences what the company expect them to!
We did a bit of searching online to see what else we could do with coffee beans. My husband came up with the idea of making a rub for steak with it. It seems that there are plenty of ideas about it online. We made up one that had ground coffee beans, brown sugar, rock salt and ground pepper. We found that it made for an interesting and different way of enjoying our steak.

We batch brew the ginger using a traditional fermentation. We let it sit in the back shed until the flavour has developed and before it turns alcoholic! By adding a touch of natural sweetener it means *less sugar and fewer calories.
*47% less sugar when compared to Barker's Lemon, Honey & Ginger fruit ... more...
