Its been a while since I visited the Heartside Bay gang and I was a little concerned about if I was going to be drawn back into the life and dramas that go on, since my interest has been wavering in the last couple of books. But this book was about Eve and I was quickly swept back in.
Unlike the other books this basically is just about Eve. It briefly touches on romance but it is more about how she deals with her fathers arrest and her stubborn belief that he is innocent. She is sure she can prove that this is all a huge misunderstanding. During the book she changes before your eyes and comes out on top.
I really like Eve and was rather disappointed in the last book which was solely about her. But this was refreshing and its own story. The transformation that occurs is beautifully written and you are routing for her to make it. You could easily pick this book up and just read it without reading any other in the series.
I would of liked to have found out more about the background of Becca and what really did occur with her family. They briefly scanned the surface but did not reveal the honest truth. I am pretty sure it was fraud just like Eve is going through. I found it great how niave Eve was to begin with and then by the end of the book she had become more street smart.
I love the writing style of Cathy Cole and find it such a simple read. The chapters are not too long and it is very fast paced. A great read for teens right through. At times a really gripping story. I was so glad they did not dwell on Ryans death anymore.
