Finally I got to read this, have been holding out for so long. This is the 3rd in the series of 8 so far and I have read completely out of order. This book has been referred to a couple of times in the following books so have been so curious as to what actually happens.
Uncle Al, Beck and his friend Peter go to Sierra Leone for a seminar before there plans of carrying on to Morocco. Their plans go a little left wing when Peter over hears 2 men discussing a flight with possible guns. Out of curiosity the boys follow them to an Airport hanger and jump aboard the plane to find the potential smuggled items. The boys become trapped and end up jumping from the plane over the Sahara Desert and end up having to survive in the extreme heat and the freezing nights.
Not as fast paced as previous books. I find whenever Beck has a friend it seems to slow him down and is more concerned about them. Still a great read. Did not learn much, as all the tips were basically told in other books. Probably only real thing I learnt is if you are going to eat bugs in the dessert do not eat ones with hair on them or who are black. Also I hate snakes and was surprised to read about the Horned Viper who hides under the sand and only has his eyes showing - creepy.
I also learnt if you are lost in the desert best thing to do is pee on your undies and tie it around your head. If you head fries so does your brain then you are dead. The urine actually helps keep your system cool. If extremely thirsty suck on a clean pebble - creates saliva.
I enjoyed it, but think would of been much better to read in the correct order. I knew he survives and knew a couple of the tricks that he uses so was not as riveted as have been previously. Still a great book.

Rancid ricotta. Something strange was happening in New Mouse City. Rodents were suddenly getting sick with stomach aches, hiccups and weird green warts - and it seemed to be related to cheese.
We mice eat a lot of cheese, so this was serious. My detective friend, Hercule Poirat, asked me to help him investigate.
