Roald Dahl is one of my childhood favourite authors. I grew up reading The Twits, Witches, and the BFG which was my favourite. I had not heard of the Giraffe and the Pelly and Me before I picked this up at the bookstore. This book is a great deal skinnier than the other books in the range that we have read so far. However, it was the one that interested my daughter the most for our next read.
We sat down to start the book yesterday. The book is one long continuous story, so there are no chapters. Last night I found a natural break point and stopped reading there. Tonight there was not natural break point and so I finished it. The whole book took about an hour reading aloud.
The story is captivating and interesting. The animals are fun and have a touch of magic about them. The situation is quite ridiculous, but it all just makes sense to be happening to this boy. Dreams come true and friendships bloom. It's just a real sweet story with some laugh out out moments. I can see myself reading this one again and again because it was so entertaining and was relatively short.
The book has silly songs to sing in it, adventure and danger. My daughter huddled by me as I read parts and loved the illustrations. I was able to do more with my voice as far as characters. The book just kinda invites silliness. Another great book from Dahl and Blake.
