In 'Dino Dan,' 10-year-old Dan Henderson (Jason Spevack) - nicknamed 'Dino Dan' by his friends - is an ordinary boy with an extraordinary obsession: he eats, sleeps and breathes dinosaurs.
A typical day for Dan isn't complete unless he's racing a T-Rex on his school track, finding a Pterodactylus in his attic or getting a baby Brachiosaurus back to its mom. Set in modern day Toronto, the series is destined to become a definitive dinosaur series for kids - mixing entertainment with educational facts on these prehistoric giants.

We were lucky enough to be selected to review this DVD this month. Dino Dan is one of my daughter's favourite shows. She loves science and nature and dinosaurs feeds well into these topics. She knows quite a bit about dinosaurs and for a few months here and there becomes as obsessions as "Dino Dam" as she likes to call him. It even comes out in her art and books she writes about the adventures of "Dino Dam".
When the DVD arrived at our place, it's fair to say that she was jumping for joy. We quickly put the DVD on and since we had a guest or two joining us for dinner, they also got to see the show. The adults who hadn't seen the show before were impressed with the storyline, and the CGI dinosaurs. We questioned what was real and what wasn't. There were a fair few deep conversations around whether Dino Dan is delusional or not.
For the kids, Dan is just a really knowledgeable kid, who gets to play with dinosaurs all the time. They learn a little about the different types of dinosaur and what they would have been like too. This DVD has some great episodes on it, including one about Spinosaurus and fishing which was a favourite for the girl. We watched it through twice and she still wanted it again. I loved the addition of the field guides as well, as special features. They give you a bit more one-to-one with dinosaurs at a kid's level. Definitely a popular pick, so thanks Roadshow and KIWIreviews!
