Zip and Mac are great at teaching young children about the letters of the alphabet (Volumes 1 and 2) so when I saw they had a DVD out for numeracy I had to get it. Often once a show has produced a few series it gets a bit dull but this certainly isn't the case with Zip and Mac. My girls (3 and 4.5 years) love watching it and they learn so much at the same time.
The DVD is 65 minutes long and comprises of 13 episodes. Many of the episodes are about a number. I like how when teaching the numbers they relate it to real life, eight is about an octopus, five is based on having five fingers. It also covers basic shapes (not just the name but the description too) and concepts like height and halves.
Most of the shows are animation with short clips of children doing things. Zip is and very chatty frog and Mac is his friendly dog. These characters are also in a series of early readers the children will see in many junior classes. As a former New Entrant teacher I am more than happy for my own children to watch this DVD as often as they like because of the great learning that is happening while they watch it.
The are also lots of catchy tunes that my girls often sing around the house. My mother in law (also a New Entrant teacher) was very impressed when she heard them singing "Three sides to a triangle, 1, 2, 3." This DVD is a great investment in your child's learning.
