Recently I was pointed in the direction of the "build a little biz" website and had finally found a source of actual helpful information for someone like me who has a small at-home business. You can imagine I was pretty excited when I found out that there was a "build a brand" workbook. Me being me, while excited, I was still a little cautious... after all I am a very small business so any money paid out HAS to be worth it.
In this case, it is.
This is a book I wish I had been handed when I first started thinking about starting a small business over a year ago. In fact I would go as far as to say I really think that anyone thinking of starting a small business NEEDS to work through this book before even thinking of getting a Facebook page or Twitter account.
I haven't finished the entire book yet, I'm writing this review though I'm only sitting at lesson 3. Why? Because even in the first three lessons, my entire view of my business, brand and what I want out of it is being totally overhauled. Not just that but it's helping me take a good look at me, not just the business as an extension and reflection of me. I think I will be fine tuning these lessons for a while.
Karen Gunton encourages the use of brainstorming and asks key questions which really helps you to focus on your business and brand. It won't give you all the answers but it does give excellence guidance. Before this workbook I must admit to being just a little bit lost as to where to start.
The thing I also love about this workbook is that everything is explained simply and you're not bogged down with jargon. Where there is jargon, it's explained. Examples are also given to clarify what is being asked which I have also found a huge help.
It feels really good to have this focus, and the other benefit is that it's giving me confidence in what I'm doing now. Instead of stumbling around blindly, I have direction.
I honestly can't recommend this highly enough! I'm sure there will be at least one further update from me. I'm looking forward to finishing the workbook and seeing what the outcome will be.
