Absolute Power - Series I product reviews

Unabashed masters of duplicity, deflection and downright lying

Prentiss McCabe are the piranhas of the murky celebrity pond, chewing up reality show rejects and taking chunks out of newspaper editors - all in the name of PR.

The PR agency run by Charles, the flamboyant puppet-master and Martin, the old school cynic are second to none in the dark art of repackaging black as white.

When every celebrity and MP's indiscretion is a front page exclusive there's no shortage of business. And, if gullible hacks want to graso every carefully proffered fabrication, well the agency is only too willing to help.

Stephen Fry is the undoubted master of this comedy. His natural over exuberance of verbosity leaves little doubt that anyone else could carry off the role of Charles Prentiss with any degree of believeability. The supporting cast are more than just supporting - they have their own levels of ego just add superbly to the stratospheric echelons of this excellent English comedy.

Free from 'canned laughter' the bane of many comedies, this show relies on intelligently written scripts, and sharp deliveries to carry one from one scene to another, and from one compulsive show to the next making it damned near impossible to off switch this DVD. This is satire personified.

The show is very Anglo-orientated, which may make it difficult to follow some of the jokes and situations for non-English viewers; however, I suspect the sharp scripts will overpower any weaknesses of being 'too English'.
