Nee Naw's Cracker Christmas product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsIt's Christmas time at Granny's place and Nee Naw is ready to party. But when those mischievous goats Plinky and Plonky steal a huge Christmas cracker, mayhem erupts. Decorations go flying, the Christmas tree topples, and Ploppy the cow is trapped in the loo!

Luckily, Nee Naw calls in all his friends to help save the day. With teamwork, tunes, and a whole lot of tinsel, they bring the Christmas magic back in time for the big party.

The clever illustrations are by artist Bruce Potter. The song to accompany the text can be streamed or downloaded freely so children can sing along while they look at the pictures.

Children absolutely love Nee Naw and his goofy ways. I am not sure if it is because he is younger than the rest of the fire engines so more relatable for children, or because he has such wonderful adventures, or because the catchy songs that accompany his stories are such fun to join in with. Whatever the reason, Mr Two and Miss Five were delighted to get another Nee Naw book to review. Mr Two knows all the characters and was glad that they were all included. The song that accompanies the story was downloaded immediately so the children could sing along, and it gave Mum a break from reading to them as they could follow the pictures with the music!

Both children thought it was hilarious that Plinky and Plonky, the mischievous goats, run amok, although given their history it is not surprising. They are world experts at getting into trouble. This makes their bad behaviour even more amusing. Not only is this a very funny episode, but the family all learned a new word - amok. Miss Five has been using it whenever she can, enjoying the power of having a brand new word of her very own.

The goats' problems occur when they have a tug of war with a Christmas cracker they have stolen. The explosion sends them both flying into the air and into Granny's Christmas tree, knocking it over. Luckily, Nee Naw's friends are able to come to the rescue and the tree is put back in place. Dusty the Digger, Ellie Copter, Toot the Tow Truck, and Moto Mike all work together to repair the damage and set the tree upright again - no thanks to Plinky and Plonky!

Mr Two loved the way the friends work together with Nee Naw to put up the Christmas tree. Predictably, Miss Five thought that the funniest part was when Ploppy gets stuck in the loo when the tree falls down. For this age group, toilet humour is the best! But the whole situation really had the children in fits of laughter as they looked at the illustration of the unrepentant goats with pine cones stuck all over their bums. The expression on their faces is priceless as they see Ploppy emerging from being trapped in the loo with Christmas wrap all over her.

I love the way the humour is presented against a background of Christmas goodwill and friends being prepared to help one another. Not only is the Christmas tree most impressive (once it is restored to an upright position with its decorations replaced}, but there is even a guest appearance by Santa and his reindeer flying over the tree as if to offer their approval to Nee Naw and his friends.

Product reviews for listing 9155: Tama and the Taniwha -  Written by Melanie Koster

Product image for Tama and the Taniwha"Don't put your puku in the water! The taniwha will get you!"

Tama is down at the lake with his sisters and grandparents. When his sisters tease him about a taniwha being in the water, he takes a deep breath and dives in anyway. What is that wonderful swirling, sparkling apparition? Is it a taniwha... or is it something else altogether?

This story about sibling teasing and family fun will resonate with everyone. Monica Koster's illustrations are a delight, complementing the text beautifully.
