I Saw It First! Jungle product reviews

Three hundred jungle animals populate the board of this carefully engineered game. Some are familiar, like the leopard or the hippopotamus, others less so, like the eyelash viper or the giraffe weevil. Pull a counter from the box featuring one of the 300 animals in this game and be the first to spot that animal on the board! Coming in a triangular box with a hexagonal double-sided board, this game features charming illustrations by Caroline Selmes. Simple to understand but addictive to play, this fun and challenging game will delight adults and children alike.

With a young child who loved spotting items, when I saw this in my little bookstore I knew that it would be perfect and bought it for them as a birthday present. The box is a pretty clear visualization of what you are going to get and the rules are so nice and simple, be the first to spot the animal on the token. Depending on how long the kids and I feel like playing, depends on what our end goal is. For a quick game we end when a player has gained 5 tokens, for a really long game we will play until someone has twenty tokens. The tokens themselves are nice and sturdy, on one side is the image you are trying to find, on the other side is the actual name of the animal, so a good little learning tool too.

The game board itself is made up of six large pieces which slot together like a puzzle. They are also double sided, so this adds some replay-ability to the game as it changes the layout ever so slightly each time. There is a fold up box which you can place all of the tokens into, to draw them out of, but this is fairly flimsy and doesn't like to close snugly so I have ended up getting a cloth bag for them to go into instead. Some of the animals can take a wee while to find, as some are similar to each other, but it doesn't drag on too long. With three hundred tokens in this game, you can play this countless times, just give the tiles a good mix up every time. This is a great game for any kids who likes to spot hidden items.
