Everest product reviews

On the morning of May 10, 1996, climbers from two commercial expeditions start their final ascent toward the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. With little warning, a violent storm strikes the mountain, engulfing the adventurers in one of the fiercest blizzards ever encountered by man.

Challenged by the harshest conditions imaginable, the teams must endure blistering winds and freezing temperatures in an epic battle to survive against nearly impossible odds.

Maybe it is the Kiwi pride in me but whenever New Zealand is mentioned in a movie I always sit up and take notice. I have to admit when Martin Hendersons character was introduced and they said he came from Taranaki I let out a little squeal. I love watching movies were scenes of New Zealand are shown especially when it is a big budget American movie it just makes me swell up. All the Kiwis were shown in such a positive loving way.

I had no idea what the movie was about just that everyone kept saying to me I should see it and how sad it is - I had already guessed someone was going to die but would I did not guess was how effected by this movie I was and still am days later. It is wonderfully told and reminds you how much power Mother Nature is and that life is not always fair. Basically its about tragedy up a mountain and we all know how unforgiving they can be. Maybe because I have a beautiful mountain as my backyard it was more emotional for me especially considering how many people loose their lives yearly up it.

The shots of Mount Everest are beautiful expecially when it expands out and you get to see the whole mountain in all its glory. The movie completely engulfs you and you find you can not look away as they are all fighting for their lives. The only parts that let the movie down were the close ups of the cast especailly when crossing the ladder I am not sure if it was done on a green screen or CGI but it just looked so unnatural and felt like they had just been stuck their. Also the Kiwi accent was appalling and made me cringe to begin with.

I don't think this is a movie you can watch without being touched in some way. Its a great example of the fighting spirit we all possess and how we are not always in control of how situations will turn out. The acting (minus the accents) was great and so real. definitely a movie I would recommend.
