How to Train Your Dragon 2 product reviews

Five years have passed since Hiccup and Toothless united the dragons and Vikings of Berk. Now, they spend their time charting the island's unmapped territories. During one of their adventures, the pair discover a secret cave that houses hundreds of wild dragons -- and a mysterious dragon rider who turns out to be Hiccup's long-lost mother, Valka (Cate Blanchett). Hiccup and Toothless then find themselves at the center of a battle to protect Berk from a power-hungry warrior named Drago.

I don't want to spoil the film for people but it has occurred to me that most family films these days can't have protagonists from complete and well adjusted families. Almost all main characters come from broken or dysfunctional families. This film will certainly hold true to those parameters.

I enjoyed the first film in the franchise, and thought I'd give this second film a go. It expands on the world that we know of in a generous manner, introducing many new locations, and many new dragons. The story line certainly did get intense ,and even got a little dark at one point. The film provides a rather mature storyline which I found intriguing. There is plenty of action in this film and still a lot of comedy. But I definitely found it had grown up a lot. It was a bit less child friendly, and a little more teen friendly.

There are many battles in this film. And they aren't all just won outright by the good guys. It lends a touch of reality to the situation which helps with the suspense and tension in the film. Drago provides a real threat to the world. These darker themes, help a lot with character development, and will provide a great basis for the third (and potentially final) installment of the "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise.
