When this arrived for reviewing, I thought it was a jar of honey. Boy was I wrong! But that isn't to say that this is a bad sauce. Quite the opposite actually; it had a little mustard kick, but also had a sweet tang to it. The sweetness wasn't overbearing like in honey mustard or dijon mustard, but was balanced perfectly.
The first thing I did was experiment with meats. From cold cuts to pan-fried, I tried it with ham, beef, and chicken. While it went well with all combinations I tried, I found it helped improve the flavour the most with the cold ham. Great in a sandwiches, and even proved to be a popular addition to the cheeseboard and crackers. My favourite use would have been the open steak toastie with fancy lettuce, where I used the mustard as an alternative to the usual onion relish.
A great option for those that can't handle the strength of normal mustards. I certainly loved the versatility of this sauce, and will certainly be looking to purchase a tub when I run out. For such a plainly packaged sauce, the flavour was nothing close to plain! Refreshing and even Gluten-free! I couldn't fault it.
I am a big fan of mustard where normally I go for a wholegrain variety I was really keen to try this mustard as it sounded interesting with the apricot jam addition. Was very happy to have been selected to review it as we do go through a bit of mustard we have salad at least a couple of nights a week with cold meats as well as sammies for lunches.
I had this for the first time in a ham and cheese sandwich and really loved the taste. I wasn't really sure what to expect I thought the apricot may be quite intense but it was definitely the mustard that came through most strongly but it was sweet! Wow super great taste and a combination you wouldn't expect to work really makes a great duo. I would have this in my sandwich every day and my son who is only 2 has had it in his sandwich too as it doesn't have that burn of stronger mustards so it is very family friendly.
Tonight we had roast beef sandwiches so we had the mustard with the beef. This was divine and made such a great sandwich. So it works well with beef as well as ham and cheese, and both on hot and cold meats. I had rubbed a bit of the mustard into the meat before cooking so it already had the flavour but it was nice to serve with extra mustard on the side. Again the mustard was great even for the kids and I had no complaints about the flavour even though my kids are very fussy little eaters.
We discussed how nice it would be made into a mustard sauce to have with corned silverside and potatoes as it is sweet and tangy so would work really well in a sauce so this is something on the cards to try. Would definitely buy this mustard again as it is one you could use regularly rather than have sitting around in the fridge for use once in a blue moon.
