Always been a David Bowie fan, from as far back as I can remember, his songs have always appealed to me. After listening to his Reality CD, I was looking forward to seeing how the tour itself went.
Pop the DVD in, get past the usual warnings against copying etc, and on to the music. The songs themselves were so-so in places but that would be my preference for his older music I suppose, his more 'modern' stuff like 'New Killer Star' just don't appeal to me at all. This DVD has all of the songs covered on his Reality CD, plus a lot more, including some of his older classics, such as 'Ziggy Stardust' and a few covers too, such as 'Under Pressure' which really surprised me, as the main 'Freddy Mercury' vocals were done by David's female lead guiatrist!
The backing screens, David's concept, were brilliant and put to spectaular use throughout the show. I thought they were an important part of the show as a whole, for without them, half of the stage-based scenery wouldn't have made sense really. Plus they added another stunning avenue for David to get his thoughts and feelings across in each song.
Overall, I would have to say that I liked this more than the CD album mainly because it was a 'live' performance which allows the viewer to get a feel for the extra stuff that never appears in a studio-authored CD, such as the crowd dancing and screaming along with the songs, and the laughs, ad-libs, jokes etc. If you like David's music, any of it, you'll find something to enjoy here.
