Aimed at beginners, this is full of the very basics, yet still holds some gems for experienced designers who may have 'moved on' and forgotten some of the 'good practices' that every learner has to know. However, the best thing about this title is how it covers the new features from Creative Suite 5.

Starting at the very first step - configuring your workspace so that it 'fits your style' and gives you the most efficient layout to work with - right through to to dealing with the vastly-expanded range of features and functions available in the latest version, including the new frame properties and the 'flash'-based animation systems that allow you to create print-ready files that can also be exported out to animated, and even interactive, flash modules for use in web and multimedia projects, ensuring your artwork stays consistent across all media platforms.

With the ever-increasing 'overlap' between applications, InDesign now comes with a lot of vector-based tools, and this book gives you a detailed overview of the 'shape' tools, which means those new to using drawing tools in a design manner will find it a lot less daunting.

Overall, this book is, quite simply, about half the price of it's worth - For a beginner, it will prove utterly invaluable as a reference to getting to grips with one of the world's leading desktop publishing and design applications, and for those who are already familiar with InDesign, it will prove a great way to get a fast handle on the improvements CS5 has brought. Written in simple language, and using key icons to mark items of particular note, the only way this book could be any easier to deal with would be if it talked!

Product image for Super FinnFinn Marsh : Superhero? Or Super Loser...

When Mr Patel asks his class what they'd like to be when they grow up, Finn (most famous for getting into trouble and doing stupid things) chooses 'superhero'.

Finn knows what he needs: superpowers, an enemy, a hideout, an outfit and... oh yeah, to save someone's life. Impossible? Not with a sidekick like the amazing Brain.
