First look at the book I was very impressed with the cover art (by Alex Ross) Done in classic comic style showcasing how large the DC world is. Its also well presented as a spiral bound hardcover so it should last a good amount of time as well, as long as its looked after of course.

Reading through the book you are taken back to the very beginning in the 1930's where comics were very much westerns and Indiana Jones type stories. It was good to see how certain trends developed and the development of the characters we know today. The different trends were many as well ranging from spy and crime to war, fantasy and real time events as well.

Not only do we learn of superheroes but of the people who created them and kept the industry growing. Many photos of them are included throughout the book. Also included are many reproductions of memorabilia and of original sketches and artworks which I think is a brilliant idea as it gives you a part of the history that you can touch not just read about.

Price wise this is very much worth it and for a comic/illustration fan it is a good book to have.
