Ten years after the epic Unicron battles, the Autobots and now-leaderless Decepticons have formed an uneasy alliance. When Energon - the rare and potent substance over which the Transformers have fought for eons - is discovered on Earth, mysterious forces return to control the Energon at any cost.
Only an elite team of Autobots, the heroic "robots in disguise", can save the planet from total destruction.

Now this is what I am talking about. This is far more in the classic style I have grown up watching and loving. OK, so it's still a twist on the old plot, and some of the 'history' has been discretely 'corrected' to fit the new storylines, but that's pretty normal... look what they did to Stargate to reconcile the series against the original movie!
The style here reminds me of those classic Japanese future-epic shows, like 'Zoids' and 'Battle of the planets' with the humans having remarkably smooth skin that is always perfectly lit to minimise shadows. Yeah sure it's a bit unreal... but then I suppose 15m high self-aware transforming robots aren't exactly commonplace either, so...
Overall, a great new twist to the story, some great action and animation, and of course it got the big Thumb of Approval
from my 8yr old son, who seems to have inherited my affection for the big metal lugs. ![]()

500 years in the future there's a whole new frontier, and a crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action.
They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space.
