Beauty Shop product reviews

A comedy from the producers of Barbershop and the producer of Bringing Down The House! Co-starring Alicia Silverstone, Andie MacDowell, Alfre Woodard, Mena Suvari and Djimon Hounsou - and featuring Kevin Bacon in a hilarious performance!

When Jorge (Bacon), the egotistical boss at a posh salon, pushes his star stylist, Gina (Latifah), a hair too far, Gina leaves and opens a beauty shop of her own. Inheriting an opinionated group of stylists, a colorful clientele and a sexy upstairs neighbor, Gina proves that you can't keep a good woman down - and you can't keep a shopful of outrageous women from speaking their minds!

Special Features:
    •  'Beauty Shop: Inside the Style' - Behind-the-scenes feature on the making of the movie with cast and crew interviews
    •  'Director's Scene Selection' - Selection of scenes with audio commentary by director Billie Woodruff
    •  Outtakes

My mum and I went to see this when it came out at the movies, and enjoyed it so much that when I found it being sold at the video shop last year I quickly snapped it up.

Gina is a solo mum who is one of the top stylists at Jorge's salon, when he pushes her too far she ends up quitting and buying a failing salon to call her own. Along the way she needs to deal with her sister, daughter, new employees (and their getting used to working with a white girl, Gina's friend) and the man who lives upstairs that she is slowly falling for. Not to mention Jorge trying to run her new business to the ground now that he is loosing business without her.

There are a couple of touching moments but this is filled with a tonne of laughs, mainly at them all learning how to get along, and it perpetuates stereotypes but still manages to be a funny film, especially had to laugh at Jorge (Kevin Bacon) and his way of running, my personal favourite part. The jokes are plenty, and the plot line is well done.

This is a fun movie and I am glad I managed to buy it on DVD.
