Century: Golem Edition product reviews

Century: Golem Edition is a re-themed version of Century: Spice Road set in the world of Caravania. In Century: Golem Edition, players are caravan leaders who travel the famed golem road to deliver crystals to the far reaches of the world.

Each turn, players perform one of four actions:
    •  Establish a trade route (by taking a market card)
    •  Make a trade or harvest crystals (by playing a card from hand)
    •  Fulfill a demand (by meeting a victory point card's requirements and claiming it)
    •  Rest (by taking back into your hand all of the cards you've played)

The last round is triggered once a player has claimed their fifth victory point card, then whoever has the most victory points wins.

I had seen this game on the shelf at a few different board game shops but was never quite sure if I was interested in it or not. Then, last year, when visiting my FLGS (Favourite Local Games Store), this game was recommended to me and my interest was grabbed. The first thing that I loved about this game is that there is only ONE double sided page of rules, that is how simple and easy this game is to learn. The 'crystals' that come with are lovely and add a great textile feature to the game. You're only allowed to keep ten crystals at a time, so you have to trade crystals and claim cards (the higher the points it is worth, the more crystals you need).

Set up is so easy, the hardest part is making sure you line the crystals up in the right order for trading and upgrading. I love the artwork on these, if you pay careful attention you will notice that the crystals on each of the market cards match what you are gaining/exchanging, which I thought was a really neat touch. The kids loved how easy this was for them to pick up and still have to think about what your next moves will be. It was great to see them really get into it, and even though it wasn't part of the gameplay, they negotiated between each other to keep the game going so they could all gain the last point card that they wanted to. My only disappointment with this game was that I waited so long to grab a copy.

Developed by Stronghold Games

Product image for Brikks Brikks can be viewed as tabletop Tetris, with each player trying to place falling blocks into their grid to score the most points.

To start the game, each player draws a different quadromino at the bottom of their individual game sheet. On a turn, the active player rolls two dice - a colored d6 and a numbered d4 - then optionally rolls both dice again. The two dice determine which specific quadromino - that is, which colored shape and ... more...
