Every Sunday my mum and I would go to my grandparents for afternoon tea and we would play Five Crowns with them. Fast forward to 2013 and my mum spotted Five Crowns Junior, and, having young grandchildren at home and a love for the full version, she grabbed it. It took a couple of years before it was dusted off and actually played but it has since become a firm favourite in the house, well, at least for my now eight year old, my other two are a little tired of it, but this game has been so well loved that I recently had to buy a second copy (which I promptly laminated and put in card sleeves for added longevity, so that my youngest can play with her imaginary friends and I don't need to worry about them get too well used).

Five Crowns Junior is a nice, simplified version of its predecessor. This version has large cards, one of each colour, which then ends up deciding which card is to be wild that round. First time players may get a little confused as there are five colours, each colour has half its cards with 'sparkles' on them and the other half without, ONLY the cards with sparkles count as wild, and only of whichever corresponding large card is face-up for that round. Whilst this isn't a hard game to learn or play, age won't affect your chances of winning, I should know, we track our scores and I don't win that often.

With bright colourful cards and an easy game for your younger ones to learn, this is a fun intro into the world of Rummy and such games.
