Product reviews...
I have recently been suffering from an injured knee, and in the early stages it was very difficult to shower and while getting into a bath was fairly easy, getting back out was nigh on impossible alone... so a solution had to be found quickly. I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to review this, and I am glad of it.
Coming flat-packed in a surprisingly compact and easy to manage cardboard box, some assembly was required. All that was needed was a screwdriver really. The instructions were fairly simple to follow, but if you enjoy 3d puzzles you won't need them - the plastic base of the seat is hatched with grooves to nestle the pipework into for bolting in place, and the metal pieces fit together quite well. The only issue I had during assembly was that one of the pipes got slightly warped somehow, and put a considerable tension into the structure that resisted my efforts to locate and lock the last two bolts. None the less, it was accomplished by releasing a couple of other screwbolts to release some of the tension, then tweaking them all down in sequence.
The seat comes with rubber feet, which did a great job of holding the chair in place in the shower while I washed all that bits that didn't require me to stand meaning I had a full clean with less time actually standing. This saved me from so many slips and accidents, and prevented further damage to the injury site.
For my situation, where the shower is one end of a larger bath so the walls taper inwards towards the floor, I did find the seat sat a little wide, meaning that without some design intervention it wasn't going to be able to sit flat and solid on the floor itself if I had it facing the ideal direction. I had no choice but to sit in sideways in the shower area, but I found to my delight that it was still very easy to get in and out of from the side too. Having the ability to adjust the length of the legs was a great idea, giving it a range of uses in other locations, for a wide range of body sizes. Just to test my idea, I took it with me to an outdoor event I attended, and used it to sit on a hillside, adjusting the legs to match the terrain so that I was still sitting flat and level. Brilliant!
Overall, this was a good choice, that has the added benefit of having uses outside of the bathroom. Well worth checking out if you need something simple that can be packed away easily for storage or transportation.
