As with all Donovan Bixley books we loved this. Split in to four well know 'sheep' nursery rhymes - Little Bo Peep - Baa, Baa, Black Sheep - Mary Had a Little Lamb and Little Boy Blue this book is entertaining in more ways than one.
Besides the nursery rhymes, you have the pictures and inside the pictures you have an activity to find the little Mouse and the Pukeko. To be honest the first time around it can be quite difficult to find them but although challenging it is still very fun. As with anything you do, everyone notices different things where as I was on a mission to find the bird and the rodent my daughters were busy looking at all the pictures and seeing all the fun things they were up to - my six year old also pointed out that there is a little boy lying in front of a haystack reading the same book - would never of noticed. Also some of the sheep are doing 'kiwiana' activities like bungy jumping, swinging on a tyre rope or playing backyard cricket.
The first page it does say to count all the sheep which, my six year old is loving to do and I thought there would be an answer somewhere, but have yet to find it. Every page there is something new and exciting and caters for the whole family.
When we first got the book I read it while the girls were asleep the next day I was making lunch and my six year old read it to my three year old. They then took turns finding different things on each page. On the inner cover there are pictures of different sheep and I thought they were throughout the book and you had to find them but got told very sternly 'no mum not all of them are in the book'. So instead I turn to a page and ask them to find something in particular.
This book really is fantastic and if you enjoy and Donovan Bixley books you will definitely love this one. The rhymes are family favourites and the pictures are definitely awesome. definitely a book everyone should have in their bookcase.
