In this new recipe we left out some sugar so we could add more fruit. The result is a fruitier more flavoursome preserve. Made in New Zealand with NZ blackberries and boysenberries.

Most preservers boil fruit at high temperatures which causes much of the flavour to be lost in the steam. The desire to produce higher quality preserves at Barker's has led to the use of the Barker's vacuum cooker. This special cooker gently boils the fruit and retains all the subtle flavours - a unique and loved character of Barker's jams and preserves.
All my family love their jams and we all have our favourites so I was interested to see what the family would think of Barkers Seedless Bramble Berries. As the weeks went on we all had this on sandwiches, toast, on scones, stirred through greek yogurt and rather yummily in gravy. This is quite frankly the most delicious fruit preserve I think I have ever bought. The closest thing I have probably tasted would be my mums blackberry jam (which had seeds).
Because this is seedless it has the most amazing flavour without those nasty bits that get stuck in your teeth and gums and often give a very unneeded crunch to recipes. The best use of this was in gravy where the flavour was very subtle but gave the gravy a distinctive sweetness that had us all pouring on third and fourth helpings. We all loved it in our yogurt and I can only imagine this would be perfect as a cheesecake topping.
Overall I think this is just perfect and it has now become my favourite fruit spread. I love that the berries are from New Zealand and that this is made in New Zealand so it feels like a good food choice as well.

I like a good, tasty jam as a nice, sweet change for a sandwich every now and then and so I was very happy to get a jar of this to try at home with the family. The label design is nice and clear as to what the product is and that it is made in home sweet home New Zealand. Just over half of each serving works out as sugar but that is still a lot less than other available jams and it doesn't affect the sweetness of the product, it is still lovely and sweet, perfect for my sweet tooth.
My daughter keeps coming down saying that she is hungry often, she is a snack eater, and I had some plain, boring crackers to give her but she wasn't interested in them, so I put some of Barker's Seedless Bramble Berries jam on them and she devoured it and I'm happy knowing I'm not giving her too much sugar and some real fruit in it. This is a nice addition to anything sweet as I've even added it my ice-cream, just a little on it and it turns plain vanilla ice-cream into berry ripple ice-cream, yum!
This is a nice jam and I'm going to buy it again for sure.
Barkers products are really gaining a reputation for quality in New Zealand, I often buy a few and put them in a basket with a few other goodies if I want to surprise a neighbour or someone special with a treat I know they will enjoy. I have a few favourites but the stand out favourite is NZ Seedless Bramble Berries. This is a little touch of decadence in a jar, and there are so many potential uses for it.
The jam itself is tasty, easy to spread, and as the name implies seedless, this means you NEVER get complaints from children, something that all parents strive to achieve! The quality of the product means you can easily use it in baking or to add a little decadence to your freshly baked scones. The price is set reasonably, this means you're not going to feel guilty about smearing some on your hot toast, or putting it in the kids sandwiches for school lunches.
One of the other things that really appeals to me about Barkers NZ Seedless Bramble Berries is that you know the jam is quality, there really are berries inside of it, I have watched several YouTube videos about what we as consumers eat, but this jam is just like my nana would have made back in the day. To be honest it's actually better than what she would have made in the day! I definitely think this is one to add to the household shopping or to do what I do and buy as little gifts to thank the neighbour down the road who always does what they can to help you out.
I LOVE, well and truely LOVE the taste from raspberries, blueberries, boysenberries, any and all berries and would eat them all the time if it wasn't for one little thing, or more rather lots of little things... Seeds. I simply cannot stand them and due to this I don't eat them and I have to settle for things that are far more artificial in flavor or creation, so when I saw this was still available for review I knew it was a must to try, especially since it happily says it is seedless.
Well, this doesn't look like much and at $4.10 for this jar I would have been put off buying it from the store since cheaper gets me more, however, now that I have had a chance to try this... Well I would be happy to buy this again. I tried some of this straight out of the jar and I didn't want to stop, it was that good. But since I needed to experiment with it and the kids were screaming for more home-made muesli bars I decided to mix some of this through and it was a big hit with the kids, they simply loved it. I myself, have finally been able to enjoy jam sandwiches at long last, so I will be buying this again without a doubt!
I am in love with Barkers products and their new NZ seedless bramble berries preserve is no exception. They have left out some of the sugar and replaced it with more fruit. This makes it much tastier and healthier than their jams were previously. The only down side to this is that it has to be stored in the fridge once opened but that wasn't a problem for us as we keep our jams in the fridge to avoid ants.
I loved that it is seedless and spreads smoothly onto your toast. This means it you use less and the jar lasts a little longer which has to be good for both the waistline and the wallet. It would also be great for those with dentures or braces as there are no seeds to annoy you. It is just the right sweetness for me. Not sickly like some others. I also like how it is just berries as some low sugar jams I have tried are sweetened with other cheap fruit concentrates.
I chose to use some of the jam in a simple turnover. I cut a sheet of puff pastry into 4 and put a few raspberries and a tablespoon of jam on each. I folded them over into triangles, sealed them, baked them and sprinkled with icing sugar. I had planned to serve the turnovers with ice cream especially since it is the middle of summer but they were too appealing to my daughters. Visitors arrived while I was serving these up so they had one each (The plan to have one in the lunchbox tomorrow went out the window.) It was very popular with everyone and so quick to make.
I will be recommending this jam to others.
I am sure I have said in previous reviews of the amazing Barkers preserves but we absolutely love jam in this house and go through loads of it. My 3 year olds breakfast of choice is more often than not jam on toast, and he loves to take a jam sandwich to kindy for lunch. We have been lucky having now had 3 different varities of the Barkers jam to try as we have had a good run of not running out of jam for a while. Always devastating for a 3 year old when the jam jars are empty!!
The thing I love about this jam is that it is made out of real berries yet you get no seeds being a seedless variety so that is great. I am not a fan of raspberry jams for the fact that you get all the little pips so I was so glad this had none. I haven't had blackberry in a long time but I love the taste and with the addition of boysenberries it made this a real scrumptious fruity treat. Perfect addition to my vogels toast in the morning and my 3 year old more than agrees.
We decided to make some jam drop biscuits with the preserve just like nana used to make for me when I was a little girl. Such an easy recipe to make but the addition of jam to a chewy biscuit is so so good. Even better when you get them while the biscuits are still warm and the jam is all warm and gooey. These have been a great treat for us for afternoon tea. The great thing is you can cook with this jam for short periods of time without it getting burnt and yuck which is perfect for biscuits and slices.
I recently made my own home made jam with the excess of plums we have had from our plum trees and this had made me realise just how much you can tell that these barkers preserves are made with lots of real fruit. They are not made up of artificial bits they are well and truly homestyle jams at their best and I will certainly be buying more especially of this flavour variety!!
Wow, this review stock really couldn't have arrived at a better time! With the holiday period comes lots of entertaining and yummy foods in our house. I opened the Barkers Seedless Bramble Berries expecting a very tart preserve due to the mention of less sugar - however I was impressed that I was wrong! The preserve still has a lovely sweetness to it, which stays true to the fresh fruit that has been used. Its delish!
I was wondering what kinds of things I would create with this, however in reality is was very effortless as the uses just came out of everyday needs. I start with I added some of this to the whipped cream I was using on mini meringues and topped with some fresh strawberries and blueberries. It was a huge hit!! I can't wait to try adding other Barkers preserves to my cream to see what I can create. I would imagine it would work well in a sponge and on pikelets too.
When creating an antipasto platter I put this in a little dish on the side to see what people would say, and I can report that it was really successful. It was a nice match with the creamy blue cheese and the brie on a cracker. Its so authentic tasting that I could have pulled off saying I made it myself!
My children have also had this on their Vogels toast in the morning and have enjoyed it and asked for more toast which is always good as it is sometimes really hard to get breakfast into them! I think as a breakfast spread it is a little more expensive as the usual Vegemite and wouldn't last as long. However due to the awesome quality and knowing that it is made relatively locally it would be something I would be more than happy to purchase more of to feed to the children. I also added this into my overnight oats that I eat for breakfast and it worked really well!
All in all this is an awesome product, that is more versatile than you think at first. I really trust the Barkers brand and would be happy to recommend their products to anyone. It would also look great in a gift basket, or you could create a wee barkers hamper for the hard to buy for relatives. Such an awesome company!
If I was going to have a favourite aside from the lemon curd in this range of Barker's new jams, then the Bramble Berries would be it. Even the name "Bramble Berries" just makes me think of an old homestead. The smell of the jam reminds me of happy summer days collecting blackberries off the side of the road with my Aunty near her farm.
When you dig our knife in, the jam is more like a jelly. It's set, and it remains chunky. I actually love that. I prefer my jams to have that jelly consistency. So far I have tried this jam on bread, toast, crumpets and scones. All of them made excellent Bramble Berry delivery systems. But the stand out in every case was the jam itself.
One thing I did the other day, was to make some sponge cake flowers with this jam. Using a trifle sponge I had purchased, and a cookie cutter, I made the flower shapes. Then I spread the Bramble Berry thickly onto the sponge and topped with cream. Lastly I put another sponge flower on top and dusted it with icing sugar. They looked amazing, and they tasted great too. I couldn't stop at one and my husband couldn't either so we polished the lot off. Sorry kids!
This is a jam I could easily see myself buying again. The berry taste is great, the consistency of the jam suits me to the ground. It looks great in the jar, tastes great. And the price is inline with what I would spend on a quality jam.
I was pretty happy when I opened my review box and found a jar of this in there. I wasn't entirely sure what bramble berries were but I knew I had to try them. I quickly found out from the jar that bramble berries were a mix of blackberries and boysenberries and also that this jar was seedless which is a huge bonus because I hate getting seeds stuck in my teeth from my usual raspberry jam.
I decided to give this to my children to trial for lunch one day on top of some freshly made cheese scones. Once the scones were cooked and cooled down a bit I cut one in half and spread a generous serving of Barkers NZ Seedless Bramble Berries on top and handed it to my daughter (almost 4 yrs) and son (17 months). Within the blink of a eye my daughter had licked the entire layer of Bramble Berries off the top and asked for more and my son had made a mighty mess, even for him, while trying to copy his sister.
I love the fact that Barkers have made these fruit preserves which are gluten free with no preservatives and no artificial sweeteners. They taste so much better than other jams and are actually better for you too!
I love the Bakers range and use many of them on a daily basis. I had never tried the NZ seedless Bramble Berries so was very keen to review it so I could give it a try!
I can safely say after the first taste it made it on to my list of must buys it is very tasty! It reminded me a lot of a really good homemade preserve it was jam packed of fruit, unlike some which have very little fruit in the ingredients list. As promised there is not a hint of a seed in it and the texture is just perfect. It spreads easily and unlike some preserves doesn't stick to everything!
After having it on toast a few times I decided to try something different with it. I had made filo parcels for dinner and had lots of filo left over. I layered some filo with Bramble berry preserve and threw it in the oven, once it was all cooked I served it with a little ice creams. The results a quick, easy and very tasty dessert. I have also discovered it is perfect with scones and cream.
I have already nearly finished my jar so on shopping day I will be grabbing another one. I can see this being a product I keep on hand at all times.
Barkers is a name that is well known for making quality preserves - and from my childhood I remember them as a treat - not the cheapie everyday jam that would also be in the fridge! I was very pleased to receive a jar of this to review, and the three children straight away wanted to try it on crumpets, so cook crumpets we did!! What can I say - YUMMMMMM!!!!! This is another of their preserves that is a winner.
What I liked most was the no added sugar/no artificial sweeteners and that there is now more fruit in it (48% fruit with blackberries and boysenberries). The texture was great - not too liquid, not too sticky. It is definitely seedless, as it states - did not see a hint of a seed. It spread easily - and had the kids licking it off their crumpets and wanting more. From children that are normally not jam children, this is great to see!!
This preserve really reminded me of home-made ones - and we all know the time and care that goes into those. Whilst the price is on the higher side - you pay for quality, and this is definitely that!
I had some baking to do for a new mum and decided to do cupcake surprises, when you put a blob of jam into the middle of the cupcake so it oozes out as you cut or bite into it. I did not make extra for us, but had my 5.5 year old taste test - to be sure, and she professed them to be "delicious" so safe to say they tasted good. My friend messaged me later that day to ask "exactly what brand of jam did you use" - she said they were the nicest she had tasted - so thank-you Barkers and KIWIreviews!!
This was a delicious thing to trial - and will be making its way into my supermarket trolley for sure!!
I was lucky enough to be given some of this jam to review and I was keen to find out what bramble berries were for a start! However on closer inspection of the jar, I noticed it was a mixture of blackberries and boysenberries - it was already sounding delicious.
It advertises itself as seedless, so I'm not sure why I was so surprised to see how beautifully smooth the jam was - it really is truly free of seeds. This is a huge huge bonus for me as my daughter won't eat jams with lumps or seeds so I know I could happily spread this on pikelets and she wouldn't refuse to eat them. And it really appealed to me to, as although I love berry jams I always find myself having to extract the tiny pips from my teeth and this eliminated all of that.
I could eat this whole jar just spread on toast, scones, pikelets etc as it was really really good, but I decided to try some in some baking and made louise slice as per the picture. My husband declared this the best louise slice ever! And all the visitors who have tried it so far have loved it too.
I love that Barkers have reduced the sugar and increased the fruit content in their jams and they are still simply delicious. At a very comparable price for a quality jam - these will now be my jam of choice without question.
I have had Barkers products before and I have always liked them. I am also a huge fan of berries, so this product had to be for me! Barkers is a brand that I think of as being high quality. I expect the price to be a bit more than some other products of the same type, however I find that the prices are reasonable and within the realms of acceptable in our family budget.
Initially, I looked at the ingredients to see what was in the preserve. Where were all the colours and numbers? Don't we have to have them in our diets these days? Well, a pleasant surprise was that the ingredients were simple berries (48%), sugar, pectin and citric acid). The brilliant this is that I remember my Mum making preserves and this is exactly what she would have put in. In fact, the same ratios as well. Well done Barker's, for making a product that has recognisable items in it. We know that this sort of product will have sugar in it but at least we know what we are eating when we see sugar on the list - numbers and colours are often unknown quantities.
The packaging of the product is homely and makes me think of making homemade preserves with my Mum when I was growing up. The brand and packaging make me feel like I trust the product and that it was made with love and care. I would consider Barker's a brand that I would put in a nice hamper for a gift and at the same time be happy to have it in our fridge as part of our groceries.
Onto the tasting - the most important part! Of course, as a consumer, I would be unlikely to get to this part if I didn't feel like it was a product I might like based on the brand, labelling etc. My initial reaction was that it wasn't too sweet. It has a tarnish berry flavour. I would consider it a perfect flavour and texture. The label says that it is seedless and I didn't see a hint of a seed in the many tastes that I have had so far. I think that it would go beautifully with scones and a little blob of cream for afternoon tea. It would also go nicely with some chicken breast. It isn't too sweet and therefore could cross between the savoury and sweet types of food.
I decided that it would make very nice little tarts. I asked my husband to get some sweet pastry from the supermarket and he came home with savoury pastry. Oh well, the show much go on. I cut out little squares and places them into mini muffin tins. I was in a bit of a hurry as I needed to get them ready for dessert before the kids headed off to bed so I wasn't too carful about how I made them. As the pastry was cooking, I decided that the finished product would be even better if I added a bit of meringue on the top. Perfect idea - berries and meringue! My mouth is watering as I type. Once the pastry was ready, I added a spoon of the Barker's NZ Seedless Bramble Berries Preserve into each pastry case and then piped some meringue on top. They cooked nice and quick and the preserve was hot by the time the meringue was ready. The finished product looked great.
At the back of my mind, I was still wondering what it would taste like with the savoury pastry, preserve and meringue. First, second and third bits were required just to make sure that my initial reaction was correct. The kids had to sit and watch as I tested it, their mouths were drooling. I am happy to say that all my tastes were very pleasing to the taste buds. In fact, I think that it worked really well. The preserve isn't too sweet and the combination of the three elements made it a tasty dessert which wasn't overly sweet. I will defiantly be making that dessert again (and I think I will even stick to the savoury pastry with it!).
