Store: Whangarei
I must admit that I haven't been to the Whangarei Super Cheap in a few years because the times that I have gone into the shop I have been basically ignored by the staff, or they are quick to wave their hand in th general direction of what I am after. I must stay that the store is well organised and sign posted as to what gear is where which is good because if I am left to find it by myself I need all the help I can get.
Yes they are cheaper than other automotive stores but I find the lack of help no okay and would rather drive that extra mile to Repco and maybe pay more for the same items but I don't mind that because the greeting of a simple simple and hello is worth the extra money and drive.
I know that my brother-in-law loves the Whangarei store, he is literally in man heaven and yes he knows more about cars and knows what he needs etc. and I am not sure if it is because he is a male and I am female but he raves about the service he gets, and I do nothing but complain about the lack of service I get.
It's not the shop for me and I guess I really should go back at some stage to see if service has improved but once bitten twice shy basically and I don't really know if I want to give them my custom anyway...it's not as though they need it. I refer people not to go there and send them elsewhere. It may be a few peoples favourite but it isn't mine!
Store: Tauranga
This is my husband's favourite place to shop, not so much of an exciting day out shopping for me but all the same SuperCheap is a great store. My hubby could spend hours in there rummaging through the various car cleaning products and accessories. Compared to it's rival stores like Repco it does live up to it's name of being super cheap with the majority of things I have looked at being a better price.
They have a huge range of automotive products from air fresheners to windscreen wiper blades and car seat covers. Every automotive accessory you could possibly need is right there under the one roof. To make it better the store is really well laid out with clear signage as to what is hidden down each aisle. Once you find the aisle you need to be in the display stands are also really easy to find things on and are not so cluttered with different items that you can't find what you are looking for.
Having gone in to the Tauranga store by myself once to buy windscreen wiper blades I would have to say the staff are really helpful and friendly, coming out to the vehicle with me to figure out what blades I would need and the guy even fitted them for me after we had found the right ones. Could not fault their customer service one bit and more shops should follow the example supercheap provide.
I think their right price guarantee they have brought in is fantastic where if you buy it one day and the next week it is on special they will credit you the difference. What a great idea, I don't know about anyone else but I always seem to buy things at full price and the very next day they go on special, which has been known to annoy me immensely.
A great store, I would like to see a cafe at the Tauranga store so instead of being dragged round looking at things that generally have no interest to me, I can relax with a hot cup of coffee and let my other half do his thing in peace!!
Store: Palmerston North
After yet another glitch in the car's WoF process, dur to yet another change in the regs by the LTSA (or whatever they call themselves these days, they change their name almost as often as they change the rules!), I had to go and buy the following items:
• wire brush
• rust-killer
• underseal
So, on the advise of the man-in-the-know at Central City WoF I headed off to Super Cheap. As I walked in the door, I was greeted by a charming young lady, and when I enquired about the products she cheerfully pointed me in the right direction, and also asked if I wanted her to accompany me, or if I was OK browsing. "I'm fine thanks" and off I went. I also noticed a couple of items I figured would be needed for other little fix-it jobs on the car. After all, if I am underneath the car, might as well do them all.
While wandering the shop, I was struck by the huge range, well presented making it a lot easier to locate the right products, since they were grouped by function and purpose. All panel and bodywork products are in the same shelving, all electrical goods, etc. Very easy to sort out what you need, and where to find it.
I gathered up my shopping, presented myself to the lovely lady at the counter again, and paid for the goods. In addition to the goods above, I also purchased some cans of engine degreaser and some high-adhesive fabric tape, and still walked out with change from a $20 note. This was great value for money!
All of the goods carried clear instructions, and when combined with the hints from the staff member at the WoF agency, I was able to fix the problems and get the WoF issued within a few hours. Brilliant stuff!
Overall, I think I have found a new automotive parts supplier. :)
