I have always been drawn to Bananas in Pyjamas perhaps it is because we used to sing the song when I was a kid. Now many years later my girls (5.5 and 4 years) enjoy watching it too although the eldest wouldn't admit it to her friends as it is marketed more for toddlers than big school kids like her. We even refer to our children sometimes as B1 and B2 when they are in their pyjamas which suits as our surname starts with B too. I was pleased to be given their latest DVD Cheese and Whiskers to review. The show is no longer people walking around in banana suits like it originally was. It is now all fully animated.

As always B1 and B2 have good intentions but somehow they end up in a muddle. It doesn't help that Rat loves playing tricks on the bananas and their friends, As a parent I don't like how the way the residents of Cuddlestown stop Rat is to play a trick on him which leads to his confession. It is not something I want to encourage my children to do but generally it is a harmless kid's programme and much better than many of the other ones out there.

The currency in Cuddlestown is honey cakes as a result of this and the classic song from The Wiggles we found a recipe (on The Wiggles website) for some crunchy munchy honey cakes and baked some. They are not as exciting as they are hyped up to be but it was a fun experience and we still ate them. I like DVDs that prompt us to do more than just watch.

The highlight of the DVD for my girls was when the bananas and Rat built a beach shack without any doors so they were stuck inside and ended up floating in the ocean. The girls were in hysterics at their stupidity and when they saw the shack floating around and they escaped out the roof. I feel this DVD is great value for money at $16.99. There are 10 episodes totally 2 hours which can be watched one at a time or for my girls they happily watched it all and kept quiet while dad had a sleep in and Mum pottered around.
