An adventure about two boys, Ellis and his friend Neckbone, who find a man named Mud hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Mud describes fantastic scenarios - he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper, who is waiting for him in town. Sceptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him. It isn't long until Mud's visions come true and their small town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of bounty hunters in tow.

I was really excited to get this movie to review as I had read the write up for it and it sounded really good, plus all the reviews I had seen for the movie were rated quite highly aswel. I wasn't disappointed either this was a movie I really enjoyed and could easily add to my favourite movies list. I watched while home alone and would quite happily sit through it again so the rest of the family can watch. I thought my 11 year old would really enjoy it as it is definitely still cool for the teenage age group as well as adults.
There are a few sexual refrences and some violence and swearing but nothing too extreme so I would let my daughter watch it. The two main characters in the movie Neckbone and Ellis are 14 year old boys so that is why I think teens could relate easily as they are coming of age and becoming interested in girls and rebelling (only midly) against their caregivers a bit. Although that is not the main focus of the movie it is in the background. Also in the background is the storyline of Ellis's parents seperating and Ellis trying to make sense of relationships and love. I thought this was really well done as a person whose parents split up about the same age.
Now most of the action in this movie happens in about the last half an hour and then it is really full on edge of the seat viewing as you wonder whether people will survive and how the story will end. The thing is the movie keeps you wondering and wanting to watch more the whole way through. The storyline was quite exciting with Mud being on the run for killing someone and the bounty hunters being hot on his trial. The young men don't quite know what they are getting themselves in for when they stumble across Muds path and agree to help him.
I really liked the way the movie ended although it wasn't completely what I expected (being a romantic I was hoping for more of a true love sort of ending) it showed the characters came out through the other side changed in their own ways. I especially like the way Ellis has grown up and come to realise life lessons about love and relationships the way he did. I won't give away what happened to Mud but I will just say although he did not get everything he wanted he got something pretty cool in the end.

Jim Carrey returns to hilarious form with this romantic comedy in the same vein as the Carrey classic LIAR LIAR. After a few stints in more serious features like ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and THE NUMBER 23, Carrey seems right at home playing Carl, a divorce who starts out the film depressed and withdrawn, scared of taking a risk. Pressured by his best friend, Peter (Bradley Cooper), to get his act together or be stuck with a lonely ... more...
