Tim Burton... *drool* Johnny Depp *drool* So far, every film that I have watched, that pairs these two greats together, I have loved. And Sweeney Todd is no different. When I first saw that this was a musical, I will admit to being unsure about it, from the singing to the plot. I never went to see it at the cinema, a fact I am a little upset about.
The definition between Todd's past and present is very easy to see. Before his imprisonment everything is bright, colourful and lovely. But after, everything is drab, grey and boring. The set designs were wonderful, from the hustle and bustle of the streets to his barber shop which is almost empty.
The songs are fantastic and one of the best things was the Bonham Carter auditioned several times for the part, it wasn't just handed to her based upon her connection with Burton. All the songs fit in perfectly where they are and all the actors sang brilliantly.
I love this film, and it is one of the few musicals that my husband enjoys, he's a hard man to please. Well worth a watch.
