I was excited to find I could fetch these pillows on trade me for a song - and happily bought my husband and myself one for xmas last year. I had seen the ads - No more sore neck! Reducing snoring! Proper posture while sleeping! Wahoo!! Upon opening, I found the pillows to be quite small, which in itself is fine, but they don't fit any of my pillow cases??? And I cant not have them on as I dont want them going brown
The first morning I woke up to a grumbling husband who complained he didnt like sleeping with a rock for a pillow - and I had to agree! They are excruciatingly hard, with no give. I struggle to see an imprint of where my head had just spent 8hrs! I figured (hoped) that it would soften in time - erm still waiting (although they have now been banished to the wardrobe - not good enough for any bed in our house)
Instead of helping my neck issues, Im pretty sure that it may have actually made it worse :( Gutted!! For the 6mths I persevered with my rock pillow in the hope it would soften and become the awesome pillow Id been assured of in the promo I ended up shuffling into the chemist more times than i care to admit in the search of something to un-cease my poor neck that had just decided it couldnt do its job anymore. Hubbies snoring also didnt improve - and he refused to use his pretty quickly, i dont even think his lasted a week whereas I conceded defeat at 6 months
Sadly, I wouldnt recommend to others as to me, they are just awful. Although whether it is because I prefer soft pillows?? I wanted it to mould to my head and protect my neck, improving my posture... and was very disappointed.
Memory Foam Contour Pillows: Until recently I had never heard of these, but after visiting Harveys one day I came across the memory foam mattresses and was instantly intrigued. These things mould to your body and in turn seem so so comfortable. I went home and did some research and in doing so discovered memory foam contour pillows. Priced at around the $70 mark they were far out of my price range, but a quick search of a popular auction site and within minutes I was about to be the proud new owner of 2 x brand new memory foam pillows for under $10.00... I couldnt wait. The lovely seller delivered the pillows to my home that very same day.
Initial reaction: Disappointment The pillows are smaller in size to a normal pillow, so if you wanted to put a pillow case on to match your existing bedding set, then the pillow does not fit properly. Of course whether there is a need to use them with a pillow case is beyond me, , but the colour of them definitely did not match the existing black and gold bedding I already had, so pillow cases were a must.
The second disappointing factor was that the pillow was much harder than the mattresses I had seen previously. They didnt mould in the same way as the mattress and I did wonder how comfortable they would really be. I mean I was really excited by the fact that this new pillow was going to envelope my head and that my head would sink into the pillow, and my new pillow would adjust to suit me. Having been struggling with sleeping for sometime, often waking up with a sore back or neck I had maybe got my hopes up a little to much?
So finally it was time for bed...With a little trepidation about my new pillow away I went. And omg talk about a mission, hehe. It was to hard, to low, I couldnt get comfortable...Arrrggghhhh!!! Eventually though I fell asleep with my last thoughts being: why did I buy these? and I'm so glad I did not pay full price. The following morning, I awoke with neither a sore neck or back but I was not happy with the comfort level of this new pillow. But with all new things one night is not a full trial and I had to give it some time.
One week later: I do admit the pillows are not the most comfortable to sleep on, but they do do what the makers suggest. You are at a better angle and they do reduce back and neck pain. They seem to have reduced the amount I move around too. But that is about it as far as I can tell. They are hard though and they dont mould like the mattresses. If you prefer a soft pillow then you wont like these. They are however heat sensitive as it states, and I do find that the keep a great temperature which is awesome.
As for the claim that they reduce snoring, well lets just say, Hubby loves his contour pillow but he still moves around a lot and still snores like he's got something to prove. So I guess at the end of the day, everyone will have a very different opinion on the memory foam contour pillow. What may work for some, may not work for others, as is the case with us. I am glad I got my set for under $10 though as I think the RRP is perhaps just a little much for these. I cant however wait to get a memory foam mattress
