OK, I am not exactly a beginner on PC's, but I firmly believe in "There's something new to learn every day" and this book had a few shortcuts and tricks that impressed me greatly.

Full of thought-provoking concepts, hints & tips, and explainations in plain-english, this will be an excellent addition to any novice PC-learner's reference library. It is so good, I think they should have put it out in hardcover, because as a paperback it's going to get heavily thumbed and dog-ear'd unless you take great care. :)

There were a few slight things that gave me pause, such as a review for a PlayStation 2 game in the middle of the 'Closer Look' section. Despite my best efforts, I still can not see any reason to be reviewing PS2 games in a beginner's guide to home PC usage... but hey, who cares. It keeps you on your toes. :)

My other slight gripe was that the book is written to primarily support Windows XP, but that gripe was rapidly erased when I read the author's introductory pages, and he explained his decision. As much as I dislike some of the 'advances' in WinXP, I have to agree, it is the way things are headed, and the hints and tricks in this book are almost universally beneficial to Win95/98/ME users too. (But what about us Win2kPro users Andrew?)

Overall however, this book IS a mighty powerful guide to the always-wierd, sometimes-wonderful world of dealing with a Windows-based PC. Good to see, and I shall be hitting the On-Line column a bit more often I think. Great stuff.
