These five classic Hancock episodes are drawn from the fourth series of Hancock's Half Hour, broadcast from Boxing day 1958 through to March 1959.
At this point, with his immensely popular radio series still running, Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock was undoubtedly the nation's favourite comedy character.

Tony Hancock and Sid James star in another outing of classic Hancock episodes. The pair make quite the comic duo, yet Hancock always insisted on being the star and the others were there as props.
The episodes are filmed in glorious techimonochrome with an equally appealing mono sound track, but as ever with programs of this era, this is only to be expected and does not detract from the viewer's pleasure. More so when you consider these episodes are over forty years old.
The scripts written by Galton and Simpson are as timeless as ever: full of humour, pathos, subtly and satire and more besides. This talented pair of writers produced a seemingly unending stream of scripts and this DVD both showcases the talents of some very talented men - both scriptwriters and the comedians. To choose just five episodes to represent the entire range of comedies written by these men must be a hard job. Deciding what to leave out must be even harder.
If you are lucky enough to own the first series, then volume two should be a welcome addition to you collection. If not, buy this edition and then hunt around until you find volume one. If you are any kind of fan of English comedies, you will understand why you need this.
