I find myself, at times, struggling to find a game that engages and excites my eight year old but isn't so simple that it bores my older two children, which can be a struggle at times due to her developmental delay. I saw this on the shelf, and given the memory aspect of the game I figured that we could at least give it a try and if it ended up not working out at all, I have a friend with young kids who could play this. The box is nice and sturdy, inside it has an insert which acts as the closet, complete with little door that you can slot the cards through, several nice, big cards, each with a different monster, one 'child in bed' card and then a variety of tiles.
This game comes with the opportunity to make the game a little harder once you've mastered the base version, in which you can add two tiles to the group, one which if flipped over you swap with another tile, therefore making it a little harder to remember where the tiles are, and one that means another monster card is added instantly. As an adult, this is horribly easy, to the point where the only enjoyment I get out of it is seeing my youngest's glee when she declares "back in the closet monster!". My ten year old joined in a few games, but it really is too simple for her, whilst my eldest isn't interested in it at all, so it didn't achieve what I would hope it would anywhere near as much as other games we have.
This is a fun take on the old memory games and the art is delightful, definitely suited for the 4-5 age range.
